Background And Purpose: ECG screening of young athletes for risk of sudden cardiac death has grown in popularity throughout the world. The purpose of this study is to assess the technical error rate of ECGs acquired by appropriately trained community volunteers compared to that reported in the literature utilizing trained medical personnel.

Methods: This is a retrospective study analyzing consecutive ECGs acquired during 5 successive high school screenings at 3 separate schools in 2011.

Context: Isokinetic and isotonic resistance training exercises are commonly used to increase strength during musculoskeletal rehabilitation programs. Our study was designed to examine the efficacy of isokinetic and isotonic muscle actions using surface electromyographic (EMG) amplitude-to-work ratios (EMG/WK) and to extend previous findings to include a range of isokinetic velocities and isotonic loads.

Objective: To examine work (WK), surface EMG amplitude, and EMG/WK during concentric-only maximal isokinetic muscle actions at 60, 120, 180, 240, and 300 degrees /s and isotonic muscle actions at 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, and 50% of the maximal voluntary isometric contraction (MVIC) torque during leg extension exercises.

Purpose: Analogues of the naturally occurring polyamines, alkylated on both terminal amines, are being developed as anticancer drugs. Because bisalkylated derivatives of putrescine (1,4-diaminobutane) are potent inhibitors of the flavin adenine dinucleotide-dependent polyamine oxidase (PAO), we asked whether PAO could detoxify synthetic bisalkylated polyamines with chain lengths longer than putrescine.

Experimental Design: We investigated the effects of one polyamine analogue in Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) and HCT116 human colon tumor-derived cells, which express dramatically different levels of PAO activity, and in these same cells treated with an inhibitor of PAO.
