Background: Transgender and nonbinary (TGNB) individuals are increasingly intentionally becoming pregnant to raise children, and hospital websites should reflect these trends. For prospective TGNB parents, a hospital website is the only way they can assess their safety from discrimination while receiving perinatal care. Cisnormativity enforced by communication gaps between medical institutions and TGNB patients can and has caused delays in receiving urgent care during their pregnancy.

Article Synopsis
  • The lung clearance index (LCI) is a useful measure for detecting early lung disease in children with cystic fibrosis, especially during their preschool years.
  • A study followed children with cystic fibrosis and healthy peers from preschool to early school age, observing LCI every 3 months for 2 years.
  • Results showed that while LCI values in cystic fibrosis children remained stable during school age, preschool LCI levels were strong predictors of future lung health, highlighting the importance of early intervention.

Article Synopsis
  • * A study followed 98 school-age children with CF for 2 years and found that during acute respiratory events, LCI worsened by +8.9%, while FEV% predicted decreased by -6.6%.
  • * The LCI was more sensitive than FEV% in identifying worsening lung function during these events, and neither measure returned to baseline levels at the next follow-up, indicating incomplete recovery.

Introduction: The multiple breath nitrogen washout (MBW) test offers a sensitive measure of airway function. In this study we aim to (a) assess the validity of the EasyOne Pro LAB (MBW ) in an in vitro lung model, (b) assess the feasibility, repeatability, and reproducibility of MBW and (c) compare outcomes with the Exhalyzer D (MBW ) and body plethysmography.

Methods: In vitro, functional residual capacity (FRC) measurements were assessed using a lung model under quasi-physiological conditions and compared to measured FRC.

Introduction: Placental examination is recommended when genetic mutations cause fetal lethality in mice. But how fetal death alters histomorphology of the surviving mouse placenta is not known.

Methods: Placentas were examined at E17.

Given the angiogenic function of vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGFA), the function of its expression by trophoblast in the avascular placental junctional zone is unknown. In mice, cells from the trophoblast-specific protein alpha (Tpbpa) lineage populate this zone and, in late gestation, some of these cells invade the decidual layer. To diminish Vegfa expression in Tpbpa cells, we crossed Vegfa(flox/flox) females with males carrying Tpbpa-Cre.
