Impact of Telemedicine on Utilization of Psychiatric Resources in New York City during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

This study sought to evaluate the impact of telepsychiatry during the COVID-19 pandemic among patients discharged from psychiatric inpatient units in the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation system. We compared patients discharged to telepsychiatry (April 2020, n = 739) and in-person follow-up (May 2019, n = 527); we collected number, timing and attendance for follow-up appointments and number and timing of emergency room (ER) visits and readmissions. We used logistic regression to evaluate the odds of having these encounters and Kaplan-Meier analyses to compare time to these encounters.

Validation of rule-based algorithms to determine colorectal, breast, and cervical cancer screening status using electronic health record data from an urban healthcare system in New York City.

Although cancer screening has greatly reduced colorectal cancer, breast cancer, and cervical cancer morbidity and mortality over the last few decades, adherence to cancer screening guidelines remains inconsistent, particularly among certain demographic groups. This study aims to validate a rule-based algorithm to determine adherence to cancer screening. A novel screening algorithm was applied to electronic health record (EHR) from an urban healthcare system in New York City to automatically determine adherence to national cancer screening guidelines for patients deemed eligible for screening.

Obstetric dimensions of the female pelvis are less integrated than locomotor dimensions and show protective scaling patterns: Implications for the obstetrical dilemma.

Objectives: The "obstetrical dilemma" hypothesis assumes that the modern human female pelvis serves two discrete functions: obstetrics and locomotion. We investigate whether these differing functions create observable patterns of morphological covariation and whether those patterns differ by height, weight, and age. This allows evaluation of evidence for canalization and phenotypic plasticity relevant to obstetric and locomotor function among a living female population.

Two decades of interventions in New York State to reduce maternal mortality: a systematic review.

Objective: To perform a systematic review of interventions to reduce maternal mortality in New York.

Study Design: We conducted a systematic review of literature published between 2000 and January 2019 reporting interventions to reduce maternal mortality in New York using PubMed and search terms: pregnancy-related death or maternal mortality OR maternal death AND New York. Eight hundred and ninety-three articles were reviewed by title, content, and focus on New York interventions or policies.
