Article Synopsis
  • - Overexpression of SKI, a TGF-β repressor, deactivates the fibrotic myofibroblast phenotype in the heart by both inhibiting TAZ and activating the Hippo tumor-suppressor pathway, independently of SMAD/TGF-β signaling.
  • - The study utilized a rat model and primary rat cardiac fibroblast cultures to analyze TAZ expression and SKI's effects, using various techniques like qPCR, luciferase assays, and mass spectrometry to explore SKI's mechanisms of action.
  • - Results indicate that SKI specifically degrades TAZ through the proteasome, influencing actin dynamics to inhibit myofibroblast activation, while BioID2 interactomics reveal potential
