Purpose: Functional problems such as incontinence and sexual dysfunction after radical prostatectomy (RP) are important outcomes to evaluate surgical quality in prostate cancer (PC) care. Differences in survival after RP between countries are known, but differences in functional outcomes after RP between providers from different countries are not well described.
Methods: Data from a multinational database of patients with PC (nonmetastatic, treated by RP) who answered the EPIC-26 questionnaire at baseline (before RP, T0) and 1 year after RP (T1) were used, linking survey data to clinical information.
Objective: The purpose of this systematic review was to synthesize the existing literature on the associations between historic redlining and modern-day health outcomes across the lifespan.
Method: This review searched PubMed and CINAHL for peer-reviewed, data-based articles examining the relationship between historic redlining and any health outcome. Articles were appraised using the JBI critical appraisal checklist.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFObjective: To evaluate the effect of the transition from IMPACT, a disease-focused treatment program, to comprehensive health insurance under Medicaid through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) on general and prostate cancer-specific quality of life (QoL) on a cohort of previously uninsured low-income men. We hypothesize that general QoL would improve and prostate cancer-specific QoL would remain the same after the transition to comprehensive health insurance.
Methods: We assessed and compared general QoL using the RAND SF-12v2™ (12-Item Short Form Survey, version 2) and prostate cancer-specific QoL using the UCLA PCI (Prostate Cancer Index) one year before, at, and one year after the transition between 30 men who transitioned to comprehensive insurance (newly insured/Medicaid group) and 54 men who remained in the prostate cancer program (uninsured/IMPACT group).
Objective: Visual timelines of patient-reported outcomes (PRO) can help prostate cancer survivors manage longitudinal data, compare with population averages, and consider future trajectories. PRO visualizations are most effective when designed with deliberate consideration of users. Yet, graph literacy is often overlooked as a design constraint, particularly when users with limited graph literacy are not engaged in their development.

Besides pathological approaches, unbiased evidence from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and gene network analysis implicate genes expressed in microglia that reduce phagocytic ability as susceptibility genes for AD. The distribution of these isoforms in different cell types, as well as their role in AD pathology still remains unclear.
Methods: Utilizing antibodies targeting specific BIN1 epitopes in human post-mortem tissue and analyzing mRNA expression data from purified microglia, we identified three isoforms expressed in neurons and astrocytes (isoforms 1, 2 and 3) and four isoforms expressed in microglia (isoforms 6, 9, 10 and 12).

Results: A bespoke solution was developed to allow transmission of data from international local data centers to a centralized repository. Data elements included in the import template were drawn from existing International Consortium for Health Outcome Measurement variables and refined to ensure accurate benchmarking as well as feasibility in data completeness.

With a rapidly aging global human population, finding a cure for late onset neurodegenerative diseases has become an urgent enterprise. However, these efforts are hindered by the lack of understanding of what constitutes the phenotype of aged human microglia-the cell type that has been strongly implicated by genetic studies in the pathogenesis of age-related neurodegenerative disease. Background: Self-efficacy has been strongly associated with health behavior and health maintenance. We examined the relationship between patient-provider self-efficacy and emergency department usage in low-income, underinsured, or uninsured patients with prostate cancer.
Methods: We prospectively analyzed quality of life, behavior, and self-efficacy data from men enrolled in a state-funded program providing free prostate cancer care.
Objective: The objectives of this study were to evaluate the rates of chemotherapy and radiotherapy delivery in the treatment of uterine serous carcinoma in the Medicare population and to compare clinical outcomes in treated and untreated patients.
Methods: The linked Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results and Medicare databases were queried to identify patients with a diagnosis of uterine serous carcinoma between 1992 and 2009. The impact of chemotherapy on survival was analyzed using the Kaplan-Meier method.
