Characterization of cornea donors at a tissue center in the city of Medellin, Colombia.

The cornea transplant is considered the most frequently performed type of transplant in the world, with a demand that has been increasing in recent years. An observational descriptive study was conducted, focusing on the ocular tissue extracted from cadaveric donors from January 2019 to December 2021 at the Red Cross Eye Bank in Medellin, Colombia. This is the first epidemiological characterization of corneal donor tissues within the eye banks of our city, where high rates of violence-related deaths explain that tissue donors are mostly young individuals.

Intravitreal methotrexate in type B lymphoblastic leukemia-Case Report.

Leukemia is a common neoplasia that, in its progress, can have ocular involvement due to direct infiltration or secondary to hematological alterations typical of the disease. These findings are consistent with an involvement of the central nervous system and are thus related to the prognosis. Despite the existing systemic therapies, there needs to be more literature that shows the treatment in the ocular involvement of this disease.

Corneal and Whole-Eye Higher Order Aberrations Do Not Correlate With Ocular Residual Astigmatism in Prepresbyopic Refractive Surgery Candidates.

Purpose: Ocular residual astigmatism (ORA) is the proportion of manifest astigmatism that is not explained by anterior corneal astigmatism. The role of higher order aberrations (HOAs) in the level of ORA has not been profoundly studied. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of different corneal and whole-eye HOAs on levels of ORA using a multivariate modeling approach.

Determination of the repeatability of corneal densitometry as measured with a Scheimpflug camera device in refractive surgery candidates.

Purpose: Corneal densitometry analysis provides an objective measurement of corneal transparency in patients undergoing photorefractive keratectomy (PRK). To date, no study that focuses on determining the reliability and smallest real difference (SRD), specifically in PRK candidates, has been published.
