Microneedles (MNs) offer minimally-invasive access to interstitial fluid (ISF) - a potent alternative to blood in terms of monitoring physiological analytes. This property is particularly advantageous for the painless detection and monitoring of drugs and biomolecules. However, the complexity of the skin environment, coupled with the inherent nature of the analytes being detected and the inherent physical properties of MNs, pose challenges when conducting physiological monitoring using this fluid.

Schizotypy, a personality structure that resembles schizophrenia symptoms, is often associated with abnormal facial emotion perception. Based on the prevailing sense of threat in psychotic experiences, and the immediate perceptual history of seeing others' facial expressions, individuals with high schizotypal traits may exhibit a heightened tendency to anticipate anger. To test this, we used insights from Representational Momentum (RM), a perceptual phenomenon in which the endpoint of a dynamic event is systematically displaced forward, into the immediate future.

We report, for the first time, crosslinked polymeric microneedle (MN) arrays and single needles (2 mm and 4.5 mm length) coated with gold nanorods (GnRs) to induce deep hyperthermia in a 3 mm-thickness skin model upon near infrared (NIR) laser irradiation. Using excised neonatal porcine skin as tissue model, it was seen that insertion capabilities of single prototypes were not affected by the coating, as around 80% of their length was inserted before and after coating.

Two sulfated polysaccharides (SPs), F2 and F3, isolated from Codium isthmocladum were found to contain galactose, sulfate, and pyruvate. The apparent molecular weights of F2 and F3 were determined to be 62 and 61 kDa, respectively. NMR spectroscopy combined with chemical analysis showed that F2 and F3 have the same structural features.

Water-insoluble glucan was isolated from the baker's yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The yeast cells were treated with alkali and the residue then with acid. Chemical and NMR (1D and 2D) analyses showed that a linear (1→3)-β-glucan was purified that was not contaminated with other carbohydrates, proteins or phenolic compounds.
