Sustainable Epoxy Composites with UV Resistance Based on New Kraft Lignin Coatings.

Currently, the composite industry is focusing on more environmentally friendly resources in order to generate a new range of biobased materials. In this manuscript, we present a new work using lignocellulosic wastes from the paper industry to incorporate into biobased epoxy systems. The manufactured materials were composed of kraft lignin, glass fiber, and a sustainable epoxy system, obtaining a 40% biobased content.

Transfusion-Associated Circulatory Overload in a Healthy Patient Following a Road Traffic Accident: A Case Report.

Transfusion-associated circulatory overload (TACO) is a potentially fatal blood transfusion complication that often presents itself within 12 hours of transfusion cessation. We present a case of TACO in an orthopedic surgery patient to highlight the importance of anticipating and managing complications of blood loss and transfusion in an otherwise healthy patient.

Wolbachia affect female mate preference and offspring fitness in a parasitoid wasp.

Background: Wolbachia are widespread intracellular bacteria in insects that often have high rates of spread due to their impact on insect reproduction. These bacteria may also affect the mating behavior of their host with impacts on the fitness of host progeny. In this study, we investigated the impact of Wolbachia on a preference for mating with young or old males in the parasitoid wasp Habrobracon hebetor.

Evaluating the Typing Power of Six Isoenzymatic Systems for Differentiation of Clinical and Standard Isolates of Candida Species.

Background: Due to the increasing prevalence of candidiasis, early detection of the causative agents may pave the way for the management of this infection. The present study aimed to assess the discriminative power of the six isoenzymatic systems for differentiating the species.

Materials And Methods: Sixteen standard and strains and 30 fluconazole-sensitive and fluconazole-resistant clinical strains of were analyzed using a Multilocus Enzyme Electrophoresis (MLEE) method, including six enzymatic systems consisting of malate dehydrogenase (MDH), phosphoglucomutase (PGM), glucose-phosphate isomerase (GPI), glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PDH), 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase (6PGD), and malic enzyme (ME).

Augmented reality mastectomy surgical planning prototype using the HoloLens template for healthcare technology letters.

In breast reconstruction following a single mastectomy, the surgeon needs to choose between tens of available implants to find the one that can reproduce the symmetry of the patient's breasts. However, due to the lack of measurement tools this decision is made purely visually, which means the surgeon has to order multiple implants to confirm the size for every single patient. In this Letter, the authors present an augmented reality application, which enables surgeons to see the shape of the implants, as 3D holograms on the patient's body.

Effects of supplementation of Tris-egg yolk extender with royal jelly on chilled and frozen-thawed ram semen characteristics.

This study was conducted to examine the effect of supplementation of Tris-egg yolk extender with lyophilized royal jelly (RJ) on chilled and frozen-thawed ram semen parameters. Ejaculates were collected by artificial vagina from 4 mature rams, twice a week for 4 weeks. Only samples with motility of ≥70% were included, pooled and divided into four equal parts and then diluted in extenders with various concentrations of RJ (0, 1, 3 and 5%, vol/vol) to a final concentration of 200 × 10 sperm/mL and was incubated at 37 °C for 30 min and were subsequently evaluated.

Erythropoietin Reduces Post-PCI Arrhythmias in Patients With ST-elevation Myocardial Infarction.

Background: Arrhythmia is the foremost cause of sudden death after myocardial infarction (MI). Animal models have recently shown that erythropoietin (EPO) can reduce the incidence of arrhythmia after MI.

Methods: We investigated the effects of administrating 33,000 IU EPO on the occurrence of post-MI arrhythmia in 40 patients with ST-elevation MI who were randomly assigned in either EPO or placebo groups.

Round cell liposarcoma metastatic to the heart.

Myxoid liposarcoma is a soft tissue tumor in adults with rare cardiac involvement. We report a 50-year-old female with high grade round cell liposarcoma of the left knee with metastases to the right heart chambers. The tumor was located in the right atrium with extension to right ventricle.

The properties of a new endodontic material.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the physical properties and chemical compositions of a new experimental cement (NEC) and compare them with mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA); pH, working time, setting time, dimensional changes following setting, flow, film thickness, and chemical composition of NEC and MTA were assessed. For chemical compositions, all specimens were imaged and analyzed by scanning electron microscopy and electron probe microanalysis (EPMA). The physical properties were performed according to ISO 6876:2001.

A theory of mode of action of azolylalkylquinolines as DNA binding agents using automated flexible ligand docking.

Azolylalkylquinolines (AAQs) are a family of quinolines with varying degrees of cytotoxic activity (comparable or moderately superior to adriamycin in some cases) developed in the past decade in our group where their exact mode of action is still unclear. In this study the most probable DNA binding mode of AAQs was investigated employing a novel flexible ligand docking approach by using AutoDock 3.0.
