Neoadjuvant therapy (NAT) for early-stage pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDA) has recently gained prominence. We investigated the clinical significance of mucin 5 AC (MUC5AC), which exists in two major glycoforms, a less-glycosylated immature isoform (IM) and a heavily glycosylated mature isoform (MM), as a biomarker in resected PDA. Immunohistochemistry was performed on 100 resected PDAs to evaluate the expression of the IM and MM of MUC5AC using their respective monoclonal antibodies, CLH2 (NBP2-44455) and 45M1 (ab3649).

Clinical Profile of Hospitalized Varicella Cases From Pediatric Emergency Consultations: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

Background: Varicella is a very common childhood infectious disease. It is generally benign, but it can lead to fatal complications. Our study aimed to describe the clinical and therapeutic profile of varicella based on consultations in the pediatric emergency department, to determine the incidence of hospitalized varicella cases in the pediatric department for complementary management, and to specify the incidence of varicella complications in hospitalized patients.

Effect of Acute Thermal Stress Exposure on Ecophysiological Traits of the Mediterranean Sponge : Implications for Climate Change.

As a result of climate change, the Mediterranean Sea has been exposed to an increase in the frequency and intensity of marine heat waves in the last decades, some of which caused mass mortality events of benthic invertebrates, including sponges. Sponges are an important component of benthic ecosystems and can be the dominant group in some rocky shallow-water areas in the Mediterranean Sea. In this study, we exposed the common shallow-water Mediterranean sponge (Demospongiae: Chondrillidae) to six different temperatures for 24 h, ranging from temperatures experienced in the field during the year (15, 19, 22, 26, and 28 °C) to above normal temperatures (32 °C) and metabolic traits (respiration and clearance rate) were measured.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the third most common cause of cancer-related mortality worldwide and accounts for 90% of all primary liver cancers. Chronic inflammation is the hallmark across most prevalent etiologies among which HBV is the leading cause worldwide (33%), followed by alcohol (30%), HCV (21%), other factors like non-alcoholic steatohepatitis linked to insulin resistance/metabolic syndrome, and obesity associated inflammation (16%). Setting/local Problem: A large tertiary hospital in southeastern Michigan with initial postpartum readmission rates of women with preeclampsia exceeding national averages.

Background: The aim of this study was to compare the effect of exercises focusing on the proximal and distal joints to knee and knee local exercises on the Patellar location in athletes with patellofemoral pain (PFP).

Methods: A randomized controlled, single-blinded trial was conducted. Thirty-five athletes with PFP were randomly divided into three groups; proximal (12), distal (11) and local (12).

Objective: To contribute to strengthening family planning and reproductive health (FP/RH) programs by identifying behavioral factors that influence FP/RH professionals' knowledge management (KM) behaviors.

Methods: We conducted an online survey, in-depth interviews, and cocreation workshops between July 2019 and June 2020 with a convenience sample of FP/RH professionals in Africa, Asia, and the United States to explore their KM behaviors. We used descriptive statistics to analyze the survey data and inductive thematic analysis for the interviews, and we synthesized participant inputs from selected cocreation activities.

Takotsubo cardiomyopathy caused by infusion reaction to paclitaxel.

Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TCM) secondary to an infusion reaction is extremely rare in the literature. Here, we present an unusual case of TCM in a patient with cervical squamous cell carcinoma who presented with acute hypoxic respiratory failure following the initiation of the first-cycle paclitaxel infusion therapy.

In this context, we investigated the antioxidant activities of the essential oil of Lavandula officinalis and tested its potency against hepatic and renal toxicity induced by hydrogen peroxide in adult male mice based on measurements of biochemical parameters, oxidative stress, and tissue damage in both organs. We proved a remarkable antioxidant power of this plant (in vitro) by correcting the harmful effects of the prooxidant (in vivo).

Docking protein-1 promotes inflammatory macrophage signaling in gastric cancer.

Docking protein-1 (DOK1) is a tumor suppressor frequently lost in malignant cells, however, it retains the ability to control activities of immune receptors in adjacent stroma cells of the tumor microenvironment. We therefore hypothesized that addressing DOK1 may be useful for cancer immunotherapy. mRNA and DOK1 protein expression were downregulated in tumor cells of gastric cancer patients (n = 249).

Individual and structural level factors that influence vaccination uptake in Nigeria have been well documented. However, there is limited information about the role of interpersonal and community level factors.

Case series: clinical outcomes of the transthyretin valine-to-isoleucine mutation in a brother-sister pair.

Background: Approximately 4% of the African-American population possess a valine-to-isoleucine (V122I) substitution within the transthyretin protein that results in a tendency for a normally tetrameric protein to dissociate into misfolded, monomeric subunits. These misfolded proteins can then accumulate pathologically and cause an autosomal dominant amyloid cardiomyopathy.
