Introduction: This prospective, randomized, controlled clinical study aimed to assess the perioperative and long-term results of primary inguinal hernia repair and to compare the results for a totally extraperitoneal (TEP) procedure with the results of patients undergoing darn plication.

Materials And Methods: For this study, 166 patients with unilateral inguinal hernias were randomly assigned to undergo either TEP (n=78) or darn plication (n=88).

Results: The mean operation time for darn plication (16±14.

Congenital myasthenic syndromes (CMS) are diseases of the neuromuscular junction. They usually belong to the disease groups that begin in the infantile or childhood period and carry genetic characteristics. The following is important in establishing the diagnosis of this disease: clinical findings, electromyography, genetic tests, determination of serum acetylcholine receptor antibodies.

Objectives: The response to hepatitis A vaccine has not been studied in children with celiac disease (CD). The aim of the present study was to evaluate the immunogenicity of an inactivated hepatitis A virus (HAV) vaccine and the effect of the human leukocyte antigen (HLA) type on immunogenicity in children with CD.

Patients And Methods: Thirty-three patients with CD and 62 healthy controls were enrolled in the study.

Background: The etiology of postoperative hypocalcemia after total thyroidectomy appears to be multifactorial, that is, postoperative transient hypoparathyroidism, low 25-hydroxy vitamin D (25-OHD) concentrations, aging, and hyperthyroidism with increased bone turnover. Our aim was to evaluate the factors responsible for postoperative hypocalcemia in euthyroid vitamin D-deficient/insufficient Graves patients who underwent total thyroidectomy at our institution.

Methods: Thirty-five consecutive patients with Graves disease treated by total thyroidectomy were included in the present study.

Background: The lateral internal sphincterotomy (LIS) technique is considered the optimal surgical treatment for chronic anal fissures (CAFs), although questions remain regarding the best technique. The present study investigated whether the type of anoderm incision (vertical or parallel to the anus) affects wound healing, wound-related complications, incontinence, and recurrence rates in CAF patients undergoing open LIS.

Methods: This prospective randomized clinical study divided 52 patients undergoing LIS for CAF into two groups.

Background: Several methods have been recommended to detect parathyroid lesions in patients who have previously undergone neck surgeries, including radio-guided surgery or intraoperative ultrasounds. In this study, we aimed to investigate whether the radio-guided excision of pathologic parathyroid lesions allowed us to find affected lesions in patients who had previously undergone neck operations.

Methods: This prospective study included 18 patients with primary hyperparathyroidism who had previously undergone neck surgeries.

Papillon-Lefevre Syndrome (PLS) is a very rare autosomal recessive disorder characterized by palmoplantar hyperkeratosis and severe early onset periodontitis, affecting the primary and permanent dentition. The syndrome was first described by Papillon and Lefevre in 1924. Genetic, immunologic, and microbiologic factors are suggested as responsible for the initiation and progression of the disease.

Papillon-Lefevre syndrome (PLS) is an autosomal recessive disease that is characterized by symmetric palmoplantar keratodermatitis and severe periodontal destruction. Mutations in the cathepsin C gene (CTSC) have recently been detected in PLS. Immune dysregulation, due to a mutation in CTSC, increases the risk of pyogenic infections in PLS patients.
