Two plasticizers with distinct properties are carefully studied in this research for their suitability in creating biocomposite edible film products. The study uncovers films' physical, tensile, and biodegradability attributes, using snakehead gelatin and ĸ-carrageenan in different concentrations, with sorbitol or glycerol as plasticizers. The biomaterials of the edible film consist of snakehead gelatin () 2% (/); ĸ-carrageenan at concentrations of 1%, 1.

Introduction: Celiac Disease (CD)-related antibody positivity in children with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) may fluctuate and become negative spontaneously. There are uncertainties about the optimal tTG-IgA titre and timing of endoscopy in the diagnosis of CD, and this study aimed to contribute to the debate on the tTGA-IgA threshold titre for endoscopy decisions in children with T1D.

Methods: The data of 991 children with T1D who had undergone serologic evaluation for CD were analysed retrospectively.

The liver and kidneys are important organs for body homeostasis but susceptible to damage or injury caused by different factors. A number of medicinal plants, such as have been proven effective in protecting the liver and kidneys from damage. Therefore, the present study aimed to examine the effect of extract (CcE) on paracetamol-induced hepatotoxicity and gentamicin-induced nephrotoxicity in rat model.

Objectives: The introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) about great changes in the field of dentistry, but it has not yet been fully determined in which areas it will make a positive contribution to dentistry students. The objective of our study was to compare the diagnostic accuracy of undergraduate students (fourth-year dentistry students [4DS] and final-year dentistry students [5DS]) and AI when examining panoramic radiographs.

Methods: Fifty panoramic radiographs and 1602 teeth were examined by 50 4DS who had not received a clinical practice internship, 50 5DS, and an AI application.

: The increase in fungal infections, both systemic and invasive, is a major source of morbidity and mortality, particularly among immunocompromised people such as cancer patients and organ transplant recipients. Because of their strong therapeutic activity and excellent safety profiles, azole antifungals are currently the most extensively used systemic antifungal drugs. Antibacterial properties of various topical antifungals, such as oxiconazole, which features oxime ether functionality, were discovered, indicating an exciting prospect in antimicrobial chemotherapy.

Objective: Management of type 1 diabetes (T1DM) is quite challenging for both adolescents and their families. In this study, we aimed to translate the 14-item Problem Areas in Diabetes-Teen (PAID-T) scale, which measures variables that influence diabetes distress, to Turkish and investigate the Turkish version's reliability and validity.

Methods: One hundred and ninety-four adolescents with T1DM participated in the study.

Mortalities due to mycoses have dramatically increased with the emergence of drug-resistant strains and growing immune-compromised populations globally. Azole antifungals have been the first choice against fungal infections of a wide spectrum and several azole derivatives with ester function were reported for their potentially promising and favorable activity against Candida spp. In this study, we designed and synthesized a series of 1-(aryl)-2-(1H-imidazol-1-yl/1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)ethyl esters, and tested them against seven reference Candida strains using EUCAST reference microdilution method.

Abernethy syndrome is a rare congenital vascular anomaly. In this condition, blood from the portal system is diverted to the caval system through a portocaval shunt, entirely or partially bypassing the liver. Prevalence figures in the literature range from 1 per 30000 population up to 1 per 50000 population.

Progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis represents a group of disorders characterized by defective bile excretion, which causes a multitude of clinical symptoms of variable severity and usually begins in childhood. During the past few decades, a number of gene sequence variants have been shown to be associated with progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis, and new subtypes continue to be discovered. Sequence variants of the ubiquitinspecific peptidase 53 gene have previously been associated with a novel autosomal recessive form of cholestasis with coincident normal or low γ-glutamyl transferase, with mild phenotypes.

Article Synopsis
  • - Inborn errors of bile acid synthesis are rare genetic disorders that can lead to liver disease and cholestasis, with symptoms varying from mild to severe, and diagnosed through genetic tests or urine analysis.
  • - The study involved evaluating data from 10 patients diagnosed between 2013 and 2023, revealing different types of deficiencies, with the most common being 3β-hydroxy-Δ5-C27-steroid dehydrogenase deficiency.
  • - Treatment approaches included cholic acid for most patients, with some requiring liver transplants or having severe outcomes, highlighting the potential for liver disease and complications from nutrient absorption issues.

Objective: The current treatment of pediatric non-rhabdomyosarcoma soft tissue sarcomas (NRSTS) is a multimodal risk-based approach. Today, smaller fields and lower doses of radiotherapy (RT) have become standard. In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the treatment outcomes and toxicity profile in children with NRSTS that received RT as a part of multimodal therapy.

Background: Postthrombotic syndrome (PTS) is a chronic condition following deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and is associated with pain, swelling, and restricted use of the affected limb. In pediatric age groups, its incidence and risk factors are not well-known.

Methods: This observational cohort study of all consecutive children (≤18 years) with DVT treated at the Emma Children's Hospital Amsterdam between January 2001 and January 2021 was conducted to identify incidence and risk factors for PTS in neonates aged ≤2 months and children aged >2 months.

Cigarette butts, along with other plastic items, have been extensively studied as the primary source of marine litter in coastal areas around the world. Although there has been extensive research on cigarette butts in coastal areas worldwide, there have been no publications related to this in coastal areas in Indonesia. Therefore, this research is the first to report on the pollution of cigarette butts on different Indonesian beaches, specifically in the East Java Province.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to identify the electrical characteristics of nonrecurrent inferior laryngeal nerves (NRILNs) during thyroid surgeries using intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) and look for associated vascular anomalies.
  • Out of 7865 thyroidectomy patients, 42 had NRILNs, with most cases detected through specific EMG signs and difficulties identifying the recurrent laryngeal nerve.
  • The findings showed a 0.53% prevalence of NRILNs, with a significant percentage having vascular anomalies, and suggest early detection methods during surgery to reduce the risk of nerve injury.

In this study, we aimed to investigate the prognostic effect of the classifications made according to the stage of the largest lesion diameter (T-max stage) and of the sum of the longest diameters of the lesions (T-sum stage), the largest area stage (A-max stage), the sum of the largest areas (A-sum stage), the highest volume stage (V-max stage), the sum of the highest volume (V-sum stage) on disease-free survival, and overall survival (OS) in multifocal/multicentric breast cancers (MMBCs) and unifocal breast cancers (UBCs). The study included a total of 769 patients either with MMBC (n = 128) or UBC (n = 641) who underwent surgery between 2006 and 2015. In the analysis, the median age of 769 patients was 53.

Casasanto (Journal of Experimental Psychology: General, 138, 351-367, 2009) conceptualised the body-specificity hypothesis by empirically finding that right-handed people tend to associate a positive valence with the right side and a negative valence with the left side, whilst left-handed people tend to associate a positive valence with the left side and negative valence with the right side. Thus, this was the first paper that showed a body-specific space-valence mapping. These highly influential findings led to a substantial body of research and follow-up studies, which could confirm the original findings on a conceptual level.
