Article Synopsis
  • Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is challenging to detect early, as current biomarkers like carbohydrate antigen 19-9 are not sufficient for reliable diagnosis.
  • A study analyzed serum samples from 88 subjects, including PDAC patients and controls, using advanced multi-omics methods to identify molecular changes associated with PDAC.
  • The research found 505 altered proteins, 186 metabolites, and 33 lipids; notably, it developed a machine learning model resulting in a 38 biomarker signature that could improve early detection of PDAC.

Introduction: Machine learning (ML) has been tried in predicting outcomes following sepsis. This study aims to identify the utility of stacked ensemble algorithm in predicting mortality.

Methods: The study was a cohort of adults admitted to a medical unit of a tertiary care hospital with sepsis.

Introduction: Double burden of malnutrition (DBM) has been recognized by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as an emerging Global Syndemic characterized by the simultaneous occurrence of both undernutrition and overnutrition. Women of the reproductive age group (15 to 49 years) are disproportionately affected by DBM and are at high risk of continuing the intergenerational cycle of malnutrition. This study aims to assess the changing trends and determinants of DBM among women of the reproductive age group in India.

Objectives: In medical research, the study's design and statistical methods are pivotal, as they guide interpretation and conclusion. Selecting appropriate statistical models hinges on the distribution of the outcome measure. Count data, frequently used in medical research, often exhibit over-dispersion or zero inflation.

Background: Cytogenetic analysis continues to have an important role in the management of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) because it is essential for prognostication. It is also necessary to diagnose specific categories of AML and to determine the most effective form of treatment. Reports from South Asia are few because the availability of cytogenetic services is relatively limited.

Background: Anaemia is a serious global public health problem that disproportionally affects children, adolescent girls, and women of reproductive age, especially pregnant women. Women of reproductive age are more vulnerable to anaemia, particularly severe and moderate anaemia leads to adverse outcomes among pregnant women. Despite continuous Government efforts, anaemia burden still poses a serious challenge in India.

In case-control studies, odds ratios (OR) are calculated from 2 × 2 tables and in some instances, we observe small cell counts or zero counts in one of the cells. The corrections to calculate the ORs in the presence of empty cells are available in literature. Some of these include Yates continuity correction and Agresti and Coull correction.
