We investigated whether intrapancreatic coagulation, with deposition of the fibrinogen-γ dimer (Fib-γD) and hypoxia, affect the severity of acute pancreatitis (AP) in mice. Pancreata of mice with AP induced by administration of cerulein or by L-arginine, or from patients with pancreatitis, had increased deposition of Fib-γD compared with control pancreata. Heparin administration protected mice from cerulein-induced AP and prevented Fib-γD formation.

However, high-resolution peripheral computed tomography is a research tool lacking wide availability. In contrast, the trabecular bone score is a novel and widely available tool that uses gray-scale variograms of the spine image from dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry to assess trabecular quality.

The wide range of pathology suggests a genetic predisposition for progression. We compared the susceptibility to acute pancreatitis in BALB/c and FVB/N mice, coupled with proteomic analysis, in order to identify potential protein associations with pancreatitis progression.

All known K8/K18 variants occur at relatively non-conserved residues and do not cause keratin cytoskeleton reorganization, whereas epidermal keratin-conserved residue mutations disrupt the keratin cytoskeleton and cause severe skin disease. The aim of our study was to identify keratin variants in idiosyncratic drug-induced liver injury (DILI).

However, the mechanisms of this bone loss are unclear. Our objective was to use image registration to define the cortex to assess changes in cortical porosity (Ct.

We enrolled 47 first-time adult transplant recipients managed with ECSW into a 1-year study to evaluate changes in bone mass, microarchitecture, biomechanical competence, and remodeling with dual energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA), high-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography (HRpQCT), parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels, and bone turnover markers obtained at baseline and 3, 6, and 12 months post-transplantation. Compared with baseline, 12-month areal bone mineral density by DXA did not change significantly at the spine and hip, but it declined significantly at the 1/3 and ultradistal radii (2.

Breast cancer originates from the epithelial cells. Keratins (K) are cytoplasmic intermediate filament proteins of epithelial cells and changes in the expression pattern of keratins have been seen during malignant transformation in the breast.

Simultaneous pancreas-kidney transplantation is a treatment of choice for patients with both disorders, yet the effects of simultaneous pancreas-kidney and kidney transplantation alone on post-transplantation fracture risk are unknown. From the United States Renal Data System, we identified 11,145 adults with type 1 diabetes undergoing transplantation, of whom 4933 had a simultaneous pancreas-kidney transplant and 6212 had a kidney-alone transplant between 2000 and 2006.
