Background: Takotsubo syndrome (TTS) is characterized by transient left ventricular (LV) dysfunction and wall motion abnormalities without culprit coronary artery disease. LV thrombus (LVT) formation during the acute phase is a fearsome complication.
Objectives: To identify factors associated with LVT and its prognostic impact in TTS patients.
Lafora disease (LD; OMIM#254780) is a rare form of progressive myoclonus epilepsy characterized by the accumulation of insoluble deposits of aberrant glycogen (polyglucosans), named Lafora bodies (LBs), in the brain but also in peripheral tissues. It is assumed that the accumulation of LBs is related to the appearance of the characteristic pathological features of the disease. In mouse models of LD, we and others have reported an increase in the levels of reactive astrocytes and activated microglia, which triggers the expression of the different pro-inflammatory mediators.

This article presents a mentalization-based approach for the treatment of those individuals diagnosed with an evolved schizophrenia spectrum disorder, whose characteristics make them especially inaccessible to reflective psychotherapeutic treatment. A synthesis of the conceptual frameworks that justify the needs for technical modification of the mentalization-based treatment foundational techniques is carried out, followed by the proposal of adaptations, with a focus in self-agency and patient-therapist dyad.

In this work, we discuss the three main cell types involved in neuroinflammation, namely (i) reactive astrocytes, (ii) activated microglia, and infiltration of (iii) peripheral immune cells in the central nervous system. Then, we discuss how neuroinflammation and epilepsy are interconnected and describe the use of different repurposing drugs with anti-inflammatory properties that have been shown to have a beneficial effect in different epilepsy models.

Little is known about the mechanisms that lead to the initial establishment of quiescence, the main hallmark of adult stem cells, during development. Here we show that protein aggregates and autophagy machinery components accumulate in developmental radial glia-like NSCs as they enter quiescence and that pharmacological or genetic blockade of autophagy disrupts quiescence acquisition and maintenance.

The goal of this study was to benchmark key technical and analytical parameters of RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) in the context of a multi-site, double-blind randomized vaccine clinical trial.
Methods: We collected longitudinal peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) samples from 10 subjects before and after vaccination with a live attenuated vaccine and performed RNA-Seq at two different sites using aliquots from the same sample to generate two replicate datasets (5 time points for 50 samples each).

We have recently described that reactive glia-derived neuroinflammation should be considered a novel hallmark of LD since we observed a florid upregulation of differentially expressed genes in both LD mouse lines, which were mainly related to mediators of inflammatory response.

Methods: This was a multicenter, observational, prospective study of adults aged ≥18 years admitted to three teaching hospitals in Spain from November 2019 to November 2021 with a diagnosis of CAP. At baseline, a Sysmex XN-20 analyzer was used to obtain detailed information related to the activation status and functional activity of white cells.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, several exceptional measures were put in place in order to avoid virus propagation, such as lockdown and the discontinuation of usual health care assistance services. It was considered that these changes might be associated with an increase in alcohol consumption and a higher risk of relapse for patients under treatment. The aim of this study was to assess changes in alcohol consumption during the lockdown period (between March and May, 2020) in patients following treatment under the Alcohol Use Disorders Programme at the "Hospital 12 de Octubre" in Madrid.
