In this work, we introduce variational umbrella seeding, a novel technique for computing nucleation barriers. This new method, a refinement of the original seeding approach, is far less sensitive to the choice of order parameter for measuring the size of a nucleus. Consequently, it surpasses seeding in accuracy and umbrella sampling in computational speed.

Peripheral neurons are heterogeneous and functionally diverse, but all share the capability to switch to a pro-regenerative state after nerve injury. Despite the assumption that the injury response is similar among neuronal subtypes, functional recovery may differ. Understanding the distinct intrinsic regenerative properties between neurons may help to improve the quality of regeneration, prioritizing the growth of axon subpopulations to their targets.

Optimizing donor fascicle selection in Oberlin's procedure: A retrospective review of anatomical variability using intraoperative neuromonitoring.

Background: Transfer of the fascicle carrying the flexor carpi ulnaris (FCU) branch of the ulnar nerve (UN) to the biceps/brachialis muscle branch of the musculocutaneous nerve (Oberlin's procedure), is a mainstay technique for elbow flexion restoration in patients with upper brachial plexus injury. Despite its widespread use, there are few studies regarding the anatomic location of the donor fascicle for Oberlin's procedure. Our report aims to analyze the anatomical variability of this fascicle within the UN, while obtaining quantifiable, objective data with intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) for donor fascicle selection.

Two possibly opposing hypotheses could explain this disparity: 1) fewer reported fatal outcomes in other Western European countries mainly reflect underreporting to VigiBase, and 2) the higher number of UK reports reflects higher real relative mortality.

Moreover, these vignettes tend to oversimplify the complex relationship between patient characteristics and medical conditions, leading to biased and potentially harmful perspectives among students. Displaying aspects of patient diversity, such as ethnicity, in written cases proves challenging.

An expert review of clozapine in Latin American countries: Use, monitoring, and pharmacovigilance.

There is growing interest in clozapine clinical use, monitoring, and research, particularly adverse drug reactions (ADRs) other than agranulocytosis. In this study we focused on clozapine pharmacovigilance. Hence, we contacted clinicians and researchers in Latin America and requested information about local psychiatric services, clozapine availability, clinical use, and ADR monitoring with the VigiBase system.

Background: The literature has paid very little attention to pericarditis, pericardial effusion and pancreatitis during clozapine treatment in children and adolescents.

Methods: Cases of clozapine-associated pericarditis and pancreatitis in children were studied using searches in: 1) PubMed (June 16, 2023), and 2) the World Health Organization's pharmacovigilance database (June 1, 2022), VigiBase. VigiBase uses a logarithmic measure of disproportionality called the information component (IC).

Myocardial infarction and haemorrhagic stroke as a rare presentation of acute aortic dissection: a fatal case report.

Background: Type A acute aortic dissection (AAD) is an extremely severe condition, having a high risk of mortality. Initial diagnosis can be deceptive, especially in patients with other confounding presentations.

Case Summary: We present the case of a 60-year-old male with a history of endovascular aortic repair for abdominal aortic dissection, in whom a diagnosis of AAD was made, but almost missed, after he presented with stroke signs and left coronary myocardial infarction.
