This study optimized biomass and lipid accumulation using mixed dairy and paper-pulp wastewater for the cultivation of sp. The obtained microalgal biomass was thereafter subjected to microwave-assisted pretreatment for optimal fermentable sugar release. Microwave power (100-700 W), pretreatment time (1-7 min), and acid-liquid ratio (1-5 %) were the input parameters for the pretreatment optimization study.

Systematic review of peptide nanoparticles for improved diabetes outcomes: insights and opportunities.

This present study carried out a systematic review and meta-analysis of peptide nanoparticles in diabetes management for improved patient outcomes from 2014 to 2024. Different electronic databases, including PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, ResearchGate, Google Scholar, and the Cochrane Library, were searched for relevant literature using Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) and boolean operators. A total of 317 articles were obtained and include PUBMED (39), Scopus (215), ResearchGate (30), Google Scholar (25), and Cochrane Library (8).

Geospatial monitoring and human health risk assessment of pharmaceutical residues in groundwater and surface water in Kampala and Mbarara Districts, Uganda.

This study investigated the occurrence, concentration and human health risks of five pharmaceutical residues-metronidazole, sulfamethoxazole, ciprofloxacin, carbamazepine, and caffeine-in groundwater and surface water samples from Kampala and Mbarara districts of Uganda. The present study also employed techniques of remote sensing and geographic information system (GIS); thereby, emphasizing the importance of thematic mapping, land use classification, and spatial buffering to evaluate pharmaceutical contaminants in an environmental setting. The risk quotient (RQ) approach was also employed to assess the risk of exposure to the pharmaceutical contaminants.

Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors as a Treatment Option for Bladder Cancer: Current Evidence.

Bladder cancer is a prevalent disease, and treatment options for advanced bladder cancer remain limited. A potential diagnostic problem on the ICU: Euglycaemic diabetic Ketoacidosis associated with SGLT2 inhibition.

Challenges of providing maintenance hemodialysis in a resource poor country: Experience from a single teaching hospital in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.

Providing maintenance hemodialysis is associated with high costs and poor outcomes. In Nigeria, more than 90% of the population lives below the poverty line, and patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) pay out-of-pocket for maintenance hemodialysis. To highlight the challenges of providing maintenance hemodialysis for patients with ESRD in Nigeria, we reviewed records of all patients who joined the maintenance hemodialysis program of our dialysis unit over a 21-month period.

Methods of induction of labour at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, Maiduguri: a 4-year review.

Background: Induction of labour is an important intervention in obstetrics. Misoprostol is increasingly being used for induction of labour in many obstetric units and it may replace the traditional Foleys catheter/oxytocin protocol.

Method: This was a retrospective study of the 3 methods of induction of labour used at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH).

Granuloma annulare and malignant neoplasms.

The relationship between granuloma annulare (GA) and malignant neoplasms is uncertain. Several case reports and clinical correlation studies have addressed this issue; however, no review articles have summarized those reported cases and statistically analyzed the association. Fourteen case reports and two correlation studies directly addressing the relationship of GA and malignant neoplasms were found from the Medline database from 1966-2001.

Syringocystadenoma papilliferum contiguous to a verrucous cyst.

Background: Syringocystadenoma papilliferum (SCAP) and verrucous cyst are two uncommon benign tumors. The simultaneous occurrence of the two lesions has not been reported before.

Methods: We report four cases of the simultaneous occurrence of the two rare lesions as so-called collision lesions with a review of the literature.

Mycosis fungoides bullosa: report of a case and review of the literature.

Mycosis fungoides, the most common type of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, can manifest in a variety of clinical and histologic forms. Presentation with vesiculobullous lesions is extremely rare. We report the ninth documented case of mycosis fungoides bullosa in which other concomitant autoimmune blistering diseases were ruled out by negative immunofluorescence.
