Ventricular assist device support for children with chemotherapy-induced cardiomyopathy and advanced heart failure: Perspectives gained from a single-center experience.

Background: Guidance and data on ventricular assist device (VAD) support for children with chemotherapy-induced cardiomyopathy, particularly within the first 2 years after chemotherapy, are limited.

Methods: We performed a single-center retrospective case series, reviewing medical records of children <18 years of age with chemotherapy-induced cardiomyopathy and advanced heart failure (HF) who received durable VAD support.

Results: Six patients met inclusion criteria-5 HeartWare™ HVAD, 1 Berlin Heart EXCOR .

A non-invasive system to manage impacted teeth associated with a large dentigerous cyst.

A male patient aged 11 years presented a large dentigerous cyst in the lower left quadrant associated with retained deciduous lower lateral incisor and canine and impacted, unerupted corresponding permanent ones. The treatment consisted in marsupialisation and placement of a modified lingual arch that held a tube for decompression used for irrigation of the cystic cavity in a comfortable way for the patient and for the clinician.The same lingual arch was later used as an anchorage method for traction of the retained teeth.

Information regarding the relationship between animal welfare (AW) and antimicrobial use (AMU) in dairy cows is limited. The current study aimed to investigate this relationship on Italian farms and to identify potential targets of AMU reduction. The study was performed at 79 Italian dairy farms housing over 15,000 cows during 2019.

Effectiveness Error: Measuring and Improving RadViz Visual Effectiveness.

RadViz contributes to multidimensional analysis by using 2D points for encoding data elements and interpreting them along the original data dimensions. For these characteristics it is used in different application domains, like clustering, anomaly detection, and software visualization. Marsupialization of a dentigerous cyst followed by orthodontic traction of two retained teeth: A case report.

This case report discussed a combined surgical-orthodontic rescue of two impacted teeth in a large dentigerous cyst by the means of fixed orthodontic appliances. After careful evaluation of the 3D radiographic exams, extraction of the deciduous elements was carried out, followed by marsupialization and orthodontic traction of the impacted teeth. Surgical procedures, pre- and posttreatment records and orthodontic biomechanical evaluations are discussed.

Search for Boosted Dark Matter Interacting with Electrons in Super-Kamiokande.

A search for boosted dark matter using 161.9 kt yr of Super-Kamiokande IV data is presented. We search for an excess of elastically scattered electrons above the atmospheric neutrino background, with a visible energy between 100 MeV and 1 TeV, pointing back to the Galactic center or the Sun.

The Impact of Preoperative Magnetic Resonance Imaging in Detecting Additional Disease in Breast Cancer Patients.

In newly diagnosed breast cancer patients, it has been shown that magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) detects additional cancer not found on mammography and thus is useful to map out the extent of disease in the affected breast.1 Others have shown MRI valuable in detecting occult disease in the contralateral breast.2 More recently, it has been reported that MRI is suitable for guiding surgical decisions, especially in younger women with lobular cancer and/ or increased breast density.

An Enhanced Visualization Process Model for Incremental Visualization.

With today's technical possibilities, a stable visualization scenario can no longer be assumed as a matter of course, as underlying data and targeted display setup are much more in flux than in traditional scenarios. Incremental visualization approaches are a means to address this challenge, as they permit the user to interact with, steer, and change the visualization at intermediate time points and not just after it has been completed. In this paper, we put forward a model for incremental visualizations that is based on the established Data State Reference Model, but extends it in ways to also represent partitioned data and visualization operators to facilitate intermediate visualization updates.

Recovering teeth from a large dentigerous cyst: A case report.

A dentigerous cyst is an odontogenic lesion caused by the expansion of the follicle surrounding the crown of impacted, embedded or unerupted teeth. These cysts may cause destruction of the bone, displacement of adjacent teeth, resorption of their roots and prevent the eruption of cyst-associated permanent teeth. This paper discusses successful use of marsupialization combined with orthodontic treatment to treat cyst-associated impacted permanent teeth and to correct a class II open bite malocclusion.

Smart homes to improve the quality of life for all.

A home is smart when, being aware of its own state and that of its users, is capable of controlling itself in order to support the user wishes and thus improving their quality of life. This holds both for users with special needs and for those with ordinary domestic needs. In this paper, we overview the Smart Homes for All project which represents the current state of the art with respect to software control and user interfaces in the smart homes arena.

Background: Although pediatric nurses working in children's hospitals often provide care to dying children, little is known about their palliative care beliefs and experiences as individuals or members of groups within the hospital.

Objective: To describe pediatric nurses' ratings of palliative care goals and problems, as individuals and members of clusters of nurses with similar views, and nurses' degree of collaboration with an inpatient palliative care team across hospital units.

Assessment of kidney volume in polycystic kidney disease using magnetic resonance imaging without contrast medium.

Background/aims: Total renal volume (TRV) is an important index to evaluate the progression of autosomal-dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). TRV has been assessed by manually tracing renal contours from CT or MR scans, often employing contrast medium (CM). We developed a fast and nearly automated technique based on the analysis of MR images acquired without CM injection for TRV quantification.

Brain parenchymal signal abnormalities associated with developmental venous anomalies: detailed MR imaging assessment.

Background And Purpose: The occurrence of brain parenchymal signal-intensity changes within the drainage territory of developmental venous anomalies (DVAs) in the absence of cavernous malformations (CMs) has been incompletely assessed. This study was performed to evaluate the prevalence of brain parenchymal signal-intensity abnormalities subjacent to DVA, correlating with DVA morphology and location.
