Does low-dose prolonged steroid therapy affect the natural history of chronic hepatitis C?

Chronic hepatitis C patients may require steroids due to other comorbidities. However, there is not enough information to consider steroids as beneficial or harmful drugs on natural history of chronic hepatitis C. The aim of the present study was to examine the effect of low-dose prolonged therapy with corticosteroids with or without azathioprine on these study patients.

TT virus infection in patients with chronic hepatitis B and response of TTV to lamivudine.

Aim: To investigate the responses of TT virus (TTV) and hepatitis B virus (HBV) to a long-term lamivudine therapy.

Methods: Sixteen patients infected with both TTV and HBV were treated with lamivudine 100 mg daily for 30 months. Blood samples were drawn at the beginning of the therapy and subsequently at month 3, 6, 9, 12 and 30.

Intramuscular versus intradermal administration of anti-hepatitis B vaccine in non-cirrhotic hepatitis C patients.

Intradermal vaccination has been proposed as an alternative for the administration of anti-hepatitis B vaccine. Patients (n=66) with chronic viral hepatitis C without cirrhosis were randomised into two groups (intramuscular, n=38; and intradermal, n=28) for prospective immunisation with 20 microg recombinant vaccine, using an ultra-rapid schedule (doses at 0, 15 and 30 days).
