Larvoscopic study on Dictyocaulus sp. in the faeces of beef cattle in northeastern Brazil.

The lungworm Dictyocaulus viviparus has an important role in cattle health and productivity worldwide, since infections can lead to substantial economic losses. Despite its importance, few studies investigating the epidemiological aspects of infection by this parasite have been conducted. The aim of this study was to report the occurrence of lungworm infection in beef cattle herds reared in an area of livestock production in the northeastern region of Brazil.

Structural equation modeling of the relationship between nursing students' quality of life and academic resilience.

Methods: this is a cross-sectional study conducted with 98 informal caregivers of hospitalized older people in an inpatient unit of a large hospital in São Carlos, São Paulo. For data collection were used questionnaires to sociodemographic and care context characterization, to evaluate burden and family functionality.

Cutaneous TRPV4 Channels Activate Warmth-Defense Responses in Young and Adult Birds.

Transient receptor potential vanilloid 4 (TRPV4) channels are sensitive to warm ambient temperatures (Ts), triggering heat loss responses in adult rats in a Ts range of ∼26-30°C. In birds, however, the thermoregulatory role of TRPV4 has never been shown. Here, we hypothesized that stimulation of TRPV4 induces thermolytic responses for body temperature (T) maintenance in birds, and that this function is already present in early life, when the T range for TRPV4 activation does not represent a warm condition for these animals.

Control of airborne particles in surgical procedures during the Covid-19 pandemic: scoping review.

Objective: To map the technical and managerial strategies for the management and reduction of airborne particles production in surgical procedures settings during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Method: Scoping review, according to the Joana Briggs Institute methodology, based on documents indexed in MEDLINE, VHL, CINAHL Cochrane, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, and gray literature, published in Portuguese, English, or Spanish. All studies from indexed scientific journals and recommendations published by international agencies or academic associations from 2019 to January 2022 were considered.

Effectiveness of implementing an improvement cycle in the identification of critically ill patients.

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of implementing a quality improvement cycle in the process for identifying critically ill patients in an intensive care center.

Methods: The implementation of an observational and interventional improvement cycle, using a before-and-after quasi-experimental design, with a quantitative approach, in an intensive care center. Seven criteria were developed to evaluate the quality of the identification process.

The adoption and maintenance of healthy behaviors contribute for its accumulation throughout life, which require more than information disclosure and recommendations. Biopsychosocial factors may work as barriers to adherence to healthier behaviors, and yet have been underexplored. The objective was to investigate the factors related to the accumulation of healthy behavior among older adults attending Primary Health Care.

Association of the estrogen receptor gene with oral health-related quality of life in patients with dentofacial deformities.

This study aimed to evaluate the associations between oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) and patient-associated factors and polymorphisms in the estrogen receptor 1 (ESR1) and 2 (ESR2) genes in patients with dentofacial deformities (DFD). This cross-sectional study included 234 adult individuals. Data such as age, sex, and the type of facial profile (I, II, or III), were collected, and the short-form oral health impact profile 14 (OHIP-14) questionnaire was used to assess their OHRQoL.

Material And Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted at dental imaging clinic, from January to March 2019. The inclusion criteria were third molars with complete rhizogenesis and the presence of the mandibular second molar.

The effect of probiotics on the clinical status of adult patients with atopic dermatitis: a systematic review.

Objectives: To describe, through a literature review, the results and benefits of oral and topical probiotics for adult patients with atopic dermatitis.

Design: A systematic review of articles published over a 13-year period was conducted to answer the following questions: (1) what information is given in the scientific literature concerning the use of probiotics in adult patients with atopic dermatitis? (2) Was there an improvement in the clinical status of the patients? (3) Was there a change in the microbial profile in patients after using such approaches? (4) Among the probiotics used, which was the most used in adult AD patients? (5) What was the average time of these interventions? (6) What were the outcomes?

Results: Seven studies with different sample sizes, ranging from 16 to 109 patients, were included in this review. These studies were all clinical trials (7/7), and probiotics (7/7) was the model of intervention chosen.

Efficacy of two low-level laser therapy protocols following lower third molar surgery - a randomized, double-blind, controlled clinical trial.

The aim of this study was to test two low-level laser therapy protocols by evaluating pain control, swelling and trismus in the postoperative period of lower third molar surgeries. This was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, crossover trial. Patients presenting two symmetrically impacted mandibular third molars were included.

Association of polymorphisms in the erythropoietin gene with diabetic retinopathy: a case-control study and systematic review with meta-analysis.

Background: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is characterized by ischemia, hypoxia, and angiogenesis. Erythropoietin (EPO), an angiogenic hormone, is upregulated in DR, and the association of EPO genetic variants with DR is still uncertain, as conflicting results have been reported. Therefore, we performed a case-control study followed by a meta-analysis to investigate whether the rs1617640, rs507392, and rs551238 polymorphisms in EPO gene are associated with DR.

Methods: We enrolled 103 patients with high-risk stage II-III HR+ BC diagnosed more than 5 years prior without clinical evidence of recurrence. We performed whole-exome sequencing (WES) on primary tumor tissue to identify somatic mutations tracked via a personalized, tumor-informed ctDNA test to detect minimal residual disease (MRD).

Objective: This cross-sectional study was performed to investigate the association between excess body weight and periodontitis in adults, stratified by sex and age, and using different criteria for obesity.

Material And Methods: Enrolled in the study were 345 individuals with a minimum age of 18 years who had attended the Public Health Service in the city of Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. All individuals underwent a complete periodontal examination and anthropometric measurements and answered a questionnaire regarding their socioeconomic, demographic, health, and lifestyle conditions.

Eimeria species have importance to calves because of the economic losses. The aim of this study was to identify the species of Eimeria that affect calves and the risk factors associated with its natural infection. Fecal samples (387) were collected from dairy farms in the southern Agreste of Pernambuco.

Cardiovascular risk among nursing workers: a cross-sectional study.

Objective: to assess cardiovascular risk among nursing workers at a public hospital.

Method: a cross-sectional study, with 324 nursing workers, using a questionnaire composed of two information blocks. The first covered issues related to sociodemographic and occupational and health characteristics, and the second, the Revised Framingham Risk Score (FRS), to stratify cardiovascular risk.

JBI series paper 3: The importance of people, process, evidence, and technology in pragmatic, healthcare provider-led evidence implementation.

In this paper, we describe and discuss evidence implementation as a venture in global human collaboration within the framework of "people, process, evidence, and technology" as a roadmap for navigating implementation. At its core implementation is not a technological, or theoretical process, it is a human process. That health professionals central to implementation activities may not have had formal training in implementation, highlights the need for processes and programs that can be integrated within healthcare organization structures.
