Unlabelled: Advanced glycation end products (AGEs) can induce inflammatory signaling pathways through the receptor for AGEs (RAGE). Targeting RAGE could be a therapeutic strategy for treating chronic inflammation mediated by the AGE-RAGE axis. This study aimed to investigate the effects of and extracts on AGE-RAGE signaling and AGE-mediated oxidative stress and inflammation in THP-1 cells.

() has long been reported to be used as a traditional herbal medicine; nonetheless, very few studies have been reported. In this study, the protective effects of extract on neurotoxicity of hippocampal neuronal cells (SH-SY5Y) was investigated.

We have demonstrated that maternal SE during pregnancy increases the risk of developing chronic kidney disease (CKD) in adult offspring. Mitochondrial oxidative damage contributes to the adverse effects of maternal smoking on renal disorders.

Maternal smoking during pregnancy contributes to long-term health problems in offspring, especially respiratory disorders that can manifest in either childhood or adulthood. Receptors for advanced glycation end products (RAGE) are multiligand receptors abundantly localized in the lung, capable of responding to by-products of reactive oxygen species and proinflammatory responses. RAGE signaling is a key regulator of inflammation in cigarette smoking-related pulmonary diseases.

Oxidative stress caused by the aberrant production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) represents an important mechanism for neuronal dysfunction and cell loss in different neurodegenerative disorders.

Candidate genes were selected from previous microarray data relevant to breast cancer markers that had the potential to serve as predictive markers for metastatic risk. This multiplex gene set included 11 candidate and 3 housekeeping genes, and the aim was to predict breast cancer progression based on lymph node involvement status.

Neuroinflammation and oxidative stress play a major role in the pathogenesis of many neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease. Advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) cause cell toxicity in the human neuronal cell line, SH-SY5Y, through an increase in oxidative stress, as shown by reducing cell viability and increasing cell toxicity in a dose-dependent manner.

In this study, we investigated the effects of F. ovata extracts on the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines, cell adhesion molecule, and receptor for advanced glycation end-products (RAGE) in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated cells.

Alternative splicing of RAGE mRNA has resulted in many variants, including RAGE variant 1 (RAGEv1). This particular splice variant of RAGE can provide a major soluble form of RAGE in blood circulation, which can neutralize deleterious ligands, thus diminishing signaling that can lead to inflammation and pathogenesis in cancer cells.

Using linear sweep voltammetry, the expression of these two genes in HeLa and HepG2 cell lines was determined based on anodic peak current, and the results were compared with conventional agarose gel electrophoresis. Total cellular RNA was reverse transcribed to complementary DNA, and amplification by PCR was carried out.

Crab-eating monkeys, Macaca fasicularis, fed a vitamin E-depleted diet for over 15 months, showed signs of anemia manifested by a lowering in hematocrit, hemoglobin concentration and red blood cell number, and by an increased susceptibility of erythrocytes to hydrogen peroxide lysis. Bone marrow pictures indicated the presence of multinucleated erythroid precursor cells and an accumulation of orthochromatophilic normoblasts. Supplementation with vitamin E resulted in reticulocytosis and a return of the normal bone marrow picture.
