The IR Biotyper and matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization-time of flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS) using ClinProTools software (MALDI-TOF MS-ClinProTools) are two novel typing methods that rely on the analysis of carbohydrate and peptide residues in intact bacterial cells. These two methods have shown promising results in the rapid and accurate typing of bacteria. In this study, we evaluated these novel typing methods in comparison with genotypic typing for cluster analysis of Burkholderia cenocepacia epidemic strain ET12, isolated from adult cystic fibrosis patients.

Design: Retrospective analysis of prospectively collected data.

This research report explores the impact of Covid-19 on women's football in Buenos Aires. The suspension of all forms of football in Argentina as part of the country's hard lockdown measures threatens to undo significant gains made in women's football in recent years. By focussing on the experiences of key actors in a feminist Civil Society Organization (CSO) and a newly professional women's team, respectively, we examine what the pandemic has meant for women's football and for women football players at different levels of the game.

Case Description: A 16-year-old girl with a grayish-depressed plaque on her left thigh. Angioresonance showed a vascular malformation affecting the skin and subcutaneous tissue.
Purpose: To describe trends in outcomes of cancer patients with unplanned admissions to intensive-care units (ICU) according to cancer type, organ support use, and performance status (PS) over an 8-year period.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed prospectively collected data from all cancer patients admitted to 92 medical-surgical ICUs from July/2011 to June/2019. We assessed trends in mortality through a Bayesian hierarchical model adjusted for relevant clinical confounders and whether there was a reduction in ICU length-of-stay (LOS) over time using a competing risk model.
Purpose: To study whether ICU staffing features are associated with improved hospital mortality, ICU length of stay (LOS) and duration of mechanical ventilation (MV) using cluster analysis directed by machine learning.
Methods: The following variables were included in the analysis: average bed to nurse, physiotherapist and physician ratios, presence of 24/7 board-certified intensivists and dedicated pharmacists in the ICU, and nurse and physiotherapist autonomy scores. Clusters were defined using the partition around medoids method.
Introduction: Contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) is a major iatrogenic cause of acute kidney injury. Experimental studies have shown that intravascular injection causes intense vacuolization of the contrast agent in the proximal renal tubules cells, preceding the increase in serum creatinine, and that the female may be at a higher risk for CIN.
Objective: To study the early kidney histomorphometric changes in contrast-induced nephropathy according to the gender.
Purpose: To assess the impact of performance status (PS) impairment 1 week before hospital admission on the outcomes in patients admitted to intensive care units (ICU).
Methods: Retrospective cohort study in 59,693 patients (medical admissions, 67 %) admitted to 78 ICUs during 2013. We classified PS impairment according to the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) scale in absent/minor (PS = 0-1), moderate (PS = 2) or severe (PS = 3-4).
Background: Maintaining adequate cerebral perfusion pressure is an essential aspect in the treatment of severe acute brain injury. To accomplish this therapeutic goal vasopressors are usually required. Vasopressin is an important endogenous stress hormone and the infusion of low-dose vasopressin and terlipressin has been used to reverse severe hypotension.

Design: A retrospective, nested case-control study.
