Methods: From 1985 to 1995, 44 patients underwent a myocutaneous platysma flap reconstruction of the oral cavity or oropharynx.
Controlled environment experiments were conducted to determine the influence of temperature and leaf wetness duration on infection of perennial ryegrass by Rhizoctonia solani. Infection of grass plants raised in pots and exposed to mycelium of R. solani was evaluated at various combinations of temperature and leaf wetness duration.

Flats of watermelon seedlings were inoculated and exposed to various combinations of temperature (12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, and 30°C) and leaf wetness duration (2, 4, 8, 12, 16, and 24 h). The experimental design was a split-plot, with whole units represented by temperature and subunits represented by leaf wetness duration.

To avoid the differences usually encountered in the description of this area, the authors preferred to consider a larger space that they have named the petroclival venous confluence (PVC). It was located between two dural layers: inner (or cerebral) and outer (or osteoperiosteal).

Malignant melanoma with primary onset in the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses remains a scarcely encountered malignancy and we report 12 cases of our own experience from 1991. These mucosal melanomas occur mainly in the elderly and present most commonly as a one sided airway obstructive syndrome with often bleeding in the nasal cavity. No sex or race ratio is found.

This became manifest clinically as acute or rapidly progressive spinal cord compression. All the patients showed total paraplegia with a sensory loss at thoracic level and sphincter disturbances.

Although a remarkable pathology in terms of morbidity and life expectancy, primary hyperparathyroidism remains nonetheless a poorly recognized state despite highly suggestive clinical polymorphism, reliable biological signs and performing imaging for localisation. Through a retrospective study of a series of 129 patients surgically treated for primary hyperparathyroidism over a period of 12 years, helped by a review of the literature, we are able to propose an adapted surgical strategy for every different clinical aspect of this pathology (adenoma, benign hyperplasia, carcinoma). This strategy is guided by specific pre-operative findings and the Sestamibi scintigraphy.

In the light of our own experience, we think that such an invasion is probably much less frequent than usually evoked on CT-scan and MRI. In our study, it was confirmed in only one case over 125 (0.

A nonsense shape dichaptic task was also introduced to control right hemispheric processing. Performances of dysphasic children were compared to those obtained from 15 normal children.

The lesion was revealed by signs of spinal cord compression and affected T1 and T7 respectively. Chondroma is a benign bone tumour, fairly frequent in the extremities but very rare in the spine.

The children of both groups were selected excluding cases with prior history of neurological disease or epilepsy. In the control group, 37 children had normal sleep EEG while 2 children had paroxysmal abnormalities.

Objective: Determine the circumstances and conditions concerning ethical problems raised by medical abortions treated in a University hospital.
Methods: Prospective study for 2 years (1 Sept 1991--31 Aug 1993) conducted with a consulting Committee for the antenatal diagnosis and fetal medicine at the University Hospital at Tours. Each discussion of the medical file for proposed medical abortions, the conditions leading to the decision and the ethical recommendations formulated were registered as well as the outcome of the pregnancy and for the infant.
EGFR was determined, before treatment; in tumors biopsies obtained from 109 consecutive patients with head and neck cancer (100 men and nine women), using iodine labelled recombinant EGF. The median age of the study population was 60 years. EGFR levels varied from 2 to 2302 fmol/mg membrane protein (median 71).

The clinical history of this woman, treated by tianeptine for mild exogenous affective disorder and by conventional insulin therapy for long-standing insulin-dependent diabetes, was remarkable for the pseudotumoral signs which led to the simultaneous diagnosis of hypothyroidism due to Hashimoto's thyroiditis and of mycobacterium avium intracellulare suppurative thyroiditis. To our knowledge, this is the second reported case of mycobacterium avium intracellulare thyroiditis.

Purpose: To determine the expression of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma and to evaluate its prognostic value.
Materials And Methods: EGFR was determined in tumor biopsies obtained from 109 consecutive patients with head and neck cancer (100 men, nine women). Control biopsies were obtained from 94 patients in a symetric nontumoral area of the same anatomic site.
Identification of prognostic factors in squamous cell head and neck cancers involves analysis of highly diverse clinical and biological parameters. This study analyzed the prognostic value of clinical variables (age, sex, tumor site, stage) and biologic parameters (squamous cell carcinoma antigen [SCC], serum thymidine kinase activity [TK], fibrin, sedimentation rate [SR]) at the time of diagnosis of squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (oral cavity, oropharynx, hypopharynx) in 189 patients. Among the clinical variables investigated, UICC stage III-IV disease (p < .
