Background And Purpose: To train and evaluate an open-source generative adversarial networks (GANs) to create synthetic lumbar spine MRI STIR volumes from T1 and T2 sequences, providing a proof-of-concept that could allow for faster MRI examinations.
Materials And Methods: 1817 MRI examinations with sagittal T1, T2, and STIR sequences were accumulated and randomly divided into training, validation, and test sets. GANs were trained to create synthetic STIR volumes using the T1 and T2 volumes as inputs, optimized using the validation set, then applied to the test set.
Background And Aims: Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (CIDP) is difficult to distinguish from mimicking disorders, with misdiagnosis resulting in IVIG overutilization. We evaluate a clinical-electrophysiological model to facilitate CIDP versus mimic neuropathy prediction.
Methods: Using the European Academy of Neurology/Peripheral Nerve Society (EAN/PNS) 2021 CIDP guidelines we derived 26 clinical and 144 nerve conduction variables.
Susceptibility to and severity of pulmonary infections increase with ethanol consumption. We have previously shown that ethanol-induced changes in the gut microbiome disrupt gut homeostasis, allowing for the translocation of proinflammatory mediators into the circulation and eliciting an immune response in the lung. Additionally, targeting the gut with butyrate supplementation not only rescues ethanol-induced disruptions to gut health but also reverses aspects of immune dysregulation in the lungs.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study in 2021, dividing patients into two groups based on their preference: vaginal and laparoscopic salpingectomy. The statistical analysis was conducted using STATA, employing standard statistical methods based on the distribution of variables.
Excessive alcohol consumption increases the severity and worsens outcomes of pulmonary infections, often due to oxidative stress and tissue damage. While the mechanism behind this relationship is multifaceted, recent evidence suggests ethanol-induced changes to the gut microbiome impact the gut-lung axis. To assess this, a chronic-binge ethanol feeding mouse model was used to determine how ethanol altered the gut microbiome, small intestinal epithelial barrier, and immune responses, as well as neutrophil abundance and oxidative stress in the lungs, and how supporting gut health with tributyrin supplementation during chronic-binge ethanol exposure affected these responses.

Background: The Community Research Fellows (CRF) program seeks to mobilize New Haven residents with lower incomes or from communities of color who are educated and equipped to engage as equal partners in health research at Yale University. The training program combines curriculum-based information with 'on-the-ground' experience with Yale research projects, while building relationships between CRFs and researchers. Although HIT typically presents 5-10 days after the initiation of heparin, thrombosis and thrombocytopenia may occur up to several weeks following heparin withdrawal, so-called delayed-onset HIT. This review is timely and relevant as our knowledge is increasing regarding the role of the gut microbiome and the gut barrier in health and disease.
Recent Findings: This review provides an overview of: the gut barrier, which is complex and comprised of the mucus layer and the intestinal apical junctional protein complex; the gut microbiome in its relation to regulating the integrity of the gut barrier; select acute and chronic conditions that are known to be associated with gut dysbiosis and impaired gut integrity or 'leaky gut'; and current means for identifying loss in gut barrier integrity.
Objective: A common phase of early-stage oncological treatment is the surgical resection of cancerous tissue. The presence of cancer cells on the resection margin, referred to as positive margin, is correlated with the recurrence of cancer and may require re-operation, negatively impacting many facets of patient outcomes. Objective: To investigate and understand factors associated with facilitating and obstructing COVID-19 vaccine access and acceptance among Black and Latinx communities.
Introduction: Approximately 39% to 49% of patients with previously diagnosed acetylcholine receptor antibody-negative myasthenia gravis have been found to be muscle-specific tyrosine kinase (MuSK) antibody positive. These patients have a presentation that typically includes oculobulbar weakness, poorer response to cholinesterase inhibitors, and higher risk for acute clinical decompensation that necessitates plasma exchange. MuSK patients can require more aggressive maintenance immunosuppression earlier-on to maintain stability, often with rituximab.
