Tuberculosis (TB) is one of the oldest, the most expanded and the most lethal diseases in human history. Although Koch's discovery of the TB causative agent (1882) represented a great progress in the fight against this infectious disease, it took a significant amount of time to reduce morbidity and mortality in the world. To determine the association between involvement in school bullying and trauma symptoms and to find whether children with presence of trauma symptoms participate in school bullying more as victims, as bullies or as bully/victims. The study included 1055, 6th to 8th grade (12-14 years of age) elementary school pupils from the western part of Mostar, The pupils were self-interviewed using a Questionnaire on School Violence developed in 2003 and validated in Croatia, and Trauma Symptoms Check List for Children (TSCC). The pupils involved in the school violence, either as victims, bullies, bully/victims had significantly more trauma symptoms than the not involved.

The involvement of iron and inflammation parameters on overall survival in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients was studied. Furthermore, transferrin receptors 1 (TfR1) and ferritin expression in tumor tissue, tumor stroma, and normal lung tissue were analyzed. Iron metabolism and inflammation parameters were determined by automated laboratory measurements at the time of diagnosis.

Aim: To asses prevalence of essential arterial hypertension in family members of soldiers killed in 1992-1995 war in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Methods: The study enrolled 1144 subjects who lost a family member in the war and 582 of their close neighbors who experienced no such loss. Data on their medical history and habits were collected, and their blood pressure was recorded in 1996 and 2003.

In the school-year 2002/2003 a prospective epidemiological study was performed with the aim of evaluating the prevalence and distribution of scoliosis in the population of schoolchildren from Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The general check-up of primary-school children covered a total of 2,517 children aged 7-14. The children in which at least one positive symptom of scoliosis was found were directed to undergo orthopedic examination and--if indicated--radiography.

Our intention was to analyze changes in the lungs in rabbits induced by the inhalation of the Bordeaux Mixture aerosol and determination of the time necessary for development of changes that cause respiratory failure and eventually precancerous changes. To experimental rabbits aerosol was administred for 4 months. Lungs were examined pathohistologically and histochemically with rubeanic acid for copper detection.

This study investigated mortality rate of lungs carcinoma in professional vineyard sprayers. Clinical investigation was performed in 187 professional vineyard sprayers who had been exposed to the inhalation of the particles of Bordeaux mixture for 24 years on average. Bordeaux Mixture is used for prevention against mildew attacking vineyards.

Neonatal BCG vaccination reduces the risk of tuberculosis and provides protection higher than 80% against the development of meningeal and miliary tuberculosis in newborns. Tuberculosis meningitis remains a major problem and also an important cause of death in some countries. In countries with high and moderate incidence of tuberculosis, prevention from the most severe complications of tuberculosis can be achieved only with a high coverage of the universal BCG neonatal immunization, being higher than 98% in the cohort of newborns.

In this study there has been investigated the effect of climatic factors on the occurrence of the bronchial asthma. The study was performed among 129 patients aged 5-67 years in the region of west Herzegovina (Bosnia and Herzegovina) with mild climate. The attacks of the asthma were checked on each individual patient by questionnaire as well as by reporting at polyclinical's investigation in several centres according to the months (year when attack polyclinic occur).

During 2000 we made certain research into prevalence of the patients with an acute pneumonia at rural as well as town inhabitants of West Herzegovina (FBiH) within the population of 29,000 inhabitants 236 cases (0.81%) of acute pneumonia with specific clinical-lab results and the x-ray of the lungs, has been diaponesed in general population. Mortality was 2%.

This research has included 111 pulmonary echinococcosis patients in the billy-mountainous, more cattle raising region of Western Herzegovina. Since 1969, the prevalence of pulmonary echinococcosis, which was 27 (0.15%) at the time, has had a slow declining tendency after the application of various epidemiological-preventive measures synchronized by the veterinarian and the medical services.

A cytologic investigation of sputum samples, obtained from rural workers engaged for years in spraying of vines, was performed in comparison to that of inhabitants of the same environment who were not vineyard workers. The subjects were grouped according to their smoking habits. Sputum specimens were conventionally stained with hematoxylin and eosin and were also tested for copper by rubeanic acid.
