Purpose: To evaluate the safety and feasibility of using drug-eluting balloons (DEBs) in the treatment of infrainguinal bypass graft stenoses.

Methods: A nonrandomized prospective study evaluated the feasibility of DEB treatment for intragraft/anastomotic stenoses arising >1 month after infrainguinal bypass grafting; stenoses due to graft/technical problems (e.g.

Article Synopsis
  • Surgical excision is the main treatment for carotid body tumors, but it has a high rate of postoperative complications, including serious issues like nerve dysfunction, stroke, and significant blood loss.
  • To reduce blood loss and complications during surgery, embolization of the external carotid artery's feeding branches can be done before surgery, though it risks causing blockages in the brain.
  • The text discusses a new intraoperative method using poloxamer 407, a unique polymer that changes states with temperature, to effectively cut off blood supply to carotid body tumors.

With the aim to characterize the HCV genotype distribution in Cuba, sera were collected from two subgroups: HCV-monoinfected and HCV/HIV co-infected patients. A combination of reverse transcription-PCR using genotype-specific primers, restriction fragment length polymorphism and sequencing was used to determine the genotype of 84 samples. Seventy-nine (94%) showed single infections (10 [12%] were genotype 1a and 69 [82%] genotype 1b) and 5 (6%) samples corresponded to mixed infections (2 [2%] with genotypes 1a/3a and 1 sample [1%] each with 1b/3a, 1b/4a and 1a/1b/3a).

Vascular trauma caused by bull horn injuries can be regarded as a subgroup of vascular traumatology, due to its particular etiology, mechanism of action, associated injuries and surgical management. In this paper, the authors report their experience in the management of 56 such injuries, for the last 20 years, analysing the annual frequency (more common in summer time), the nature of the injury, the most commonly affected vessels and the surgical reconstruction or revascularization methods employed. The quality of results are discussed according some variable, such as is the case of the precocity of the repair, the degree of contamination, the occurence of post operative infections and the nature of the reconstructive or revascularization method employed.

The purpose of this study is to describe our experience in the endovascular management of two cases of aortoenteric and aortoesophageal fistula that were unsuccessfully treated with an aortic stent graft because of recurrent infection. Although endovascular repair appears to be a promising therapeutic modality, in the presence of infection this technique should be considered on an individual basis. Failure of treatment should be expected in a significant number of cases during follow-up, particularly in patients with signs of sepsis.

This study was undertaken to evaluate the utility and efficacy of intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) in the endovascular management of patients with acute type B aortic dissection. Twelve consecutive patients with acute type B aortic dissection underwent elective endoluminal stent-graft repair in the operating room under angiographic and TEE guidance. The follow-up protocol included spiral CT scanning before discharge from the hospital to assess thrombosis exclusion of the aortic false lumen, perfusion of branch vessels, and the absence of perigraft leak.
