Strongylodiasis is an unattended condition caused by the parasite Strongyloides stercoralis. The Strongyloides hyperinfection syndrome can develop in immunosuppressed hosts, mainly in those with depression of cellular immunity. Co-infection with human T-cell lymphotropic virus (HTLV) is a risk factor for the development of severe forms of strongyloidiasis.
