Objective: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has impacted nursing home care and activities in profound ways. We sought to understand whether the COVID-19 pandemic had any impact on hospital admissions of nursing home residents.

Methods: A retrospective analysis of hospital admissions of nursing home residents to a tertiary general hospital in Singapore during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 was conducted and compared to admissions in the preceding year.

GIST of the stomach masquerading as recurrent falls in an older adult: a case report and review.

Background: Gastric tumors become increasingly prevalent with advanced age but can be challenging to diagnose in older adults who may present with non-specific symptoms. Here, we report a rare case of an occult gastric tumor associated with mesenteric panniculitis that presented with recurrent falls precipitated by vertigo.

Case Presentation: We describe a diagnostically challenging case of cryptogenic gastric tumor associated with mesenteric panniculitis in a 74-year-old female who presented with abdominal bloating and recurrent falls precipitated by vertigo, dehydration, acute kidney injury and electrolyte deficiencies, but had no alarm symptoms.

Undertreatment of osteoporosis following hip fracture: a retrospective, observational study in Singapore.

Unlabelled: Undertreatment of osteoporosis after hip fracture increases the risk of death, disability, recurrent osteoporotic fractures, and financial burden. Only half were compliant with osteoporosis medications. Elderly patients were less persistent and compliant to treatment.

Pituitary apoplexy masquerading as functional decline in an older person.

We report the case of an older lady who was admitted to a tertiary teaching hospital with sub-acute functional decline of two months' duration, which was initially attributed to a concomitant urinary tract infection. Further investigations, however, revealed the diagnosis of pituitary apoplexy with central hypocortisolism. Subsequent treatment with physiological doses of steroids improved patient's function and overall well-being.

National University Health System (NUHS) Transitional Care Program.

Frail elderly patients require a longer time to recuperate after hospitalization, and are often discharged home from the hospital with little support despite their needs fpr complex care. They are particularly vulnerable to hazards of hospitalization and fragmented care if not appropriately managed. A geriatrician-led transitional care program called NUH-to-Home (NUH2H) was started in March 2014 to provide high-quality person-centered interdisciplinary care for older adults who were discharged from the National University Hospital (NUH) Singapore.
