Background: Ocular adnexal B cell lymphoma is the most common orbital malignancy in adults. Large chromosomal translocations and alterations in cell-signaling pathways were frequently reported in lymphomas. Among the altered pathways, perturbations of NFκB signaling play a significant role in lymphomagenesis.

Article Synopsis
  • Retinoblastoma (RB) is a rare type of childhood eye cancer that arises from mutations in the RB1 gene and is influenced by changes in gene expression.
  • The study utilized a specialized PCR array to analyze 84 cancer-related genes, identifying 68 that were dysregulated in RB tumors, leading to the discovery of key pathways involved in the cancer's development.
  • This research highlights potential therapeutic targets and promotes the use of PCR arrays for efficient gene expression assessment in retinoblastoma.

Drought is a major constraint throughout the world, and it creates a major yield loss by changing the plant metabolic process. However, the negative effects of drought on plant growth and development were alleviated by using plant growth-promoting bacteria. With these backgrounds, the study was conducted to identify the drought-tolerant endophytic bacteria and to know their plant growth promotion (PGP) effect on sorghum plants under drought conditions.

Oil palm () has proven to be a phytolith-occluded carbon (PhytOC)-rich species that plays a vital role in acting as a carbon sink for reducing atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO) concentration. The present research estimated the silicon, phytolith, and PhytOC contents in four (OP4), eight (OP8), and fifteen (OP15)-year-old oil palm plantations. Qualitative analysis using a scanning electron microscope (SEM) revealed the presence of abundant globular echinate phytoliths with varied diameter (8.

Flours and starches extracted from the tropical tubers underwent freeze-drying and cooking in comparison with fresh cooking. Freeze-dried and cooked starch (FDS) granules were found to have different shapes and collapsed arrangement whereas freshly cooked starch (FCS) granules had the least varied structures. The freeze-dried flours had larger structures compared to freshly cooked flours.

Background: Retinoblastoma is a sight and life-threatening embryonal tumor in children. Though chemotherapy is the main mode of therapy, evolving resistance remains a major obstacle in treatment success. The presence of cancer stem cells (CSC) is frequently reported to be responsible for chemoresistance in multiple tumors.

Aims: In the present study, the flavonoid fraction of Tabernaemontana divaricata flavonoid fraction(TdFf) leaves was investigated for its in vitro and in vivo antioxidative and antitumor activity.

Subjects And Methods: The flavonoid fraction of ethyl acetate extract was assessed for their in vitro antioxidant activity by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), 2,2'-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulphonic acid) (ABTS), superoxide radicals, ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), hydrogen peroxide, hydroxyl radicals and nitric oxide and in vivo antioxidative activity by enzymic and nonenzymic antioxidants in the liver of intraperitoneally implanted Ehrlich's lymphoma (EAC) and Dalton's lymphoma ascites (DLAs) model. The in vitro cytotoxicity was assessed using trypan blue exclusion assay and in vivo antitumor activity was assessed by screening the ILS, serum liver marker enzymes and histopathology of the liver.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to develop methods to identify glaucoma by examining the optic nerve head (ONH) of donor's eyes when information on the preexisting ocular disease is unavailable.

Materials And Methods: The ONH of the donor's eyes was evaluated under a stereomicroscope for the cup-disc ratio (CDR) and focal retinal rim thinning. The vertical diameter of the cup and disc was also measured using a precalibrated eyepiece micrometer.

Aim: Retinoblastoma (RB) is the most common primary intraocular malignancy affecting children under 5 years of age. This study aims to correlate the clinical parameters with RB1 mutation in the light of Knudson's two-hit hypothesis in Indian RB patients.

Methods: We analyzed the clinical details of 73 RB patients visiting Aravind Eye Hospital, Madurai, India, between January and October 2012.

Many experiments in plant molecular biology require processing of a large number of RNA samples and in some cases large quantities are required for a single application. In turmeric, a major spice and medicinal plant, a protocol for RNA isolation is not available. The major difficulty encountered while using other popular protocols is the low yield and quality of RNA which hampers the downstream applications like qRT-PCR, cDNA synthesis and micro RNA isolation.

There is limited literature on the management of cataracts in juvenile xanthogranuloma (JXG). A 2-month-old girl presented to us with hyphema, secondary glaucoma OU and skin nodules suggestive of JXG. She developed bilateral cataracts during her follow-up and was treated successfully with cataract surgery and aphakic rehabilitation.

Phakomatous chorsitomas are rare congenital tumors of lenticular anlage believed to be caused by invagination of surface ectoderm into the mesoderm. They may present as a mass lesion in the eyelid or in the orbit. We report a rare case of lenticular anlage occurring within the corneal stroma in a 6-month-old boy.

Objective: To evaluate the antioxidant and cytotoxic effects of hexane extract of Morinda pubescens leaves and to find the primary bioactive compound responsible for antioxidant and cytotoxic activities.

Methods: The individual compounds were isolated using column chromatography and were characterized by spectroscopic techniques. The antioxidant activity was evaluated for all individual isolated compounds by DPPH method using L-Ascorbic acid as standard and cytotoxicity was assessed for the extract and the hyoscyamine by MTT assay, caspase test and RT-PCR study.
