Objectives: (1) To compare the results of a rapid test for qualitative detection of cardiac troponin I (cTnI) values >1 ng/mL with those obtained using a reference quantitative method and (2) to perform a semiquantitative assessment of rapid test results using this point-of-care (POC) assay.
Design: Prospective cross-sectional study from April 2015 to November 2020.
Setting: Secondary referral hospital.
Case Summary: Acute hepatitis and liver damage are rare adverse effects of clopidogrel in humans. In veterinary medicine, clopidogrel is mainly prescribed in the treatment of feline patients with cardiomyopathies. Little is known regarding the safety and adverse effects of clopidogrel in this group of patients.

We have showed a risen trend of S. pyogenes infections among preschoolers after the pandemic event.

Here, we investigated the activity of three differently functionalized GQDs-Blue Luminescent GQDs (L-GQDs), Aminated GQDs (NH-GQDs), and Carboxylated GQDs (COOH-GQDs)-against . GQDs were administrated to bacterial suspensions that were treated with blue light.

Herein we describe Legionnaires' disease trend in the years 2016-2023 in a large Italian hospital showing how improvements in diagnostic algorithms impact on its detection.

Although a substantial part of the overall effort has been directed at the Spike protein to create an effective global vaccination strategy, other proteins have also been examined and identified as possible therapeutic targets. Among them, although initially underestimated, there is the SARS-CoV-2 E-protein, which turned out to be a key factor in viral pathogenesis due to its role in virus budding, assembly and spreading.

Forty-eight dogs with a PDA and 35 controls were included. In the dogs with a PDA, 37/48 had hemodynamically significant PDAs (hsPDAs) while 11/48 had non-hsPDAs, based on the presence or absence of echocardiographic signs of left-sided volume overload, respectively.

Moreover, it has never been investigated whether there is a potential correlation between lung microbiota communities and respiratory mechanics. We performed a prospective observational study in two intensive care units of a university hospital in Italy.

In addition, we have implemented a custom optical phase-locked loop to ensure long-term stable operation and have investigated its impact on frequency noise. We demonstrate the power scalability of the single frequency (Hz-class) Brillouin laser, delivering over 500 mW with tunability across the 900 nm to 930 nm range in an all-fiber fully polarization-maintaining architecture.

Methods: Sixty patients (31 VCMX and 31 CTG) were included. The primary outcome was a soft tissue thickness change 3 mm below the gingival margin (GM).
Introduction: Relationships between inflammation and mood have been observed in terms of pro-inflammatory effects induced by depressive conditions and, in parallel, by an antidepressant-induced favorable effect on the recovery of inflammatory states. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) drugs were hypothesized to improve the prognosis of COVID-19 pneumonia, a typical acute inflammation, in terms of decreased mortality rate and pro-inflammatory cytokine serum levels.
Methods: The medical records of COVID-19 pneumonia inpatients at Careggi University Hospital (Florence) were analyzed for prognosis and Interleukin 6 (IL-6) after admission for over a period of 22 months.
The human gut microbiome, an intricate ecosystem housing trillions of microorganisms within the gastrointestinal tract, holds significant importance in human health and the development of diseases. Recent advances in technology have allowed for an in-depth exploration of the gut microbiome, shedding light on its composition and functions. Of particular interest is the role of diet in shaping the gut microbiome, influencing its diversity, population size, and metabolic functions.

Introduction: The Aberrant Salience Inventory (ASI) is a useful tool to measure salience abnormalities among the general population. There is strong clinical and scientific evidence that salience alteration is linked to psychosis. To the present day, no meta-analysis evaluating ASI's psychometric properties and screening potential has been published.

The relationship between the urobiota and the development of urinary tract disorders is now of great interest. Patients with spina bifida (SB) can be born with (or develop over time) neurological deficits due to damaged nerves that originate in the lower part of the spinal cord, including the neurogenic bladder.

New ablation targets such as the posterior wall, coronary sinus, and left atrial appendage were then sought. A new catheter (QDOT Micro™) has recently been released, which has the potential to increase the safety and efficacy of the procedure: it is connected to a new radiofrequency generator that allows for temperature-controlled ablation by reducing power and increasing irrigation with the increase in tissue temperature and allows to deliver power up to 90 W for few seconds (very high-power short-duration).

We conducted a dual-center study to evaluate the impact of microelectrode mapping in patients undergoing catheter ablation (CA) of ventricular tachycardia (VT).
Methods: We included 21 consecutive patients (median age, 68 [12], 95% male) with structural heart disease undergoing CA for electrical storm (n = 14) or recurrent VT (n = 7) using the QDOT Micro catheter and a multipolar catheter (PentaRay, n = 9).
Graphene Oxide has been proposed as a potential adjuvant to develop improved anti-TB treatment, thanks to its activity in entrapping mycobacteria in the extracellular compartment limiting their entry in macrophages. Indeed, when administered together with linezolid, Graphene Oxide significantly enhanced bacterial killing due to the increased production of Reactive Oxygen Species. In this work, we evaluated Graphene Oxide toxicity and its anti-mycobacterial activity on human peripheral blood mononuclear cells.

This study aims to clarify which factors influence the relationship between climate change anxiety and the disposition to PEBs, focusing on the role of self-efficacy as a mediating factor. A cross-sectional study was conducted on 394 healthy subjects living in Italy who completed the Pro-Environmental Behaviours Scale (PEBS), the General Self-Efficacy scale (GSE), and the Climate Change Anxiety Scale (CCAS).

The aim of the current study was to translate the ESSS from English to Italian and to examine its factor structure, reliability, and validity in the Italian context. (2) Methods: We tested the fit of the original three-factor structure (agency, ownership, and narrative identity) across a community sample (N = 269) and the reliability as well as the convergent and divergent validity of the ESSS.

To investigate this interesting case, we isolated and genotypically characterized the () clinical strain from the patient and tested the effect of Everolimus on its viability in an axenic culture and in a peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMCs) infection model. To exclude strain-specific resistance, we tested the activity of Everolimus against strains of ancient and modern lineages.
