Unlabelled: Data on status epilepticus (SE) in older inpatients is limited.
Aim: To assess SE characteristics and etiologies, and identify risk factors for SE in a cohort of hospitalized patients.
Methods: We selected patients aged ≥ 60 years with late-onset seizures from a tertiary center.
Background: In recent years, significant progress has been made in immune demyelinating disorders, particularly regarding early diagnosis and disease-modifying drugs (DMDs). Despite advancements, socioeconomic factors in many Latin American countries present unique challenges that impede the proper identification and management of these disorders.
Objectives: The updated consensus from the Central American and Caribbean working group strives to enhance the management of Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder (NMOSD), and Myelin Oligodendrocyte Glycoprotein Antibody-Associated Disease (MOGAD) by offering a framework for incorporating available treatment into clinical practice.
The HIV incidence rate in Miami-Dade County is among the highest in the United States, with Latinx sexual and gender minority (SGM) groups experiencing a disproportionate burden. Despite extensive efforts by both private and public sectors to curb transmission and improve pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) uptake, Latinx SGM groups continue to have high rates of HIV and low PrEP uptake compared to SGM groups overall. Using data collected from a biobehavioral study of the socio-structural factors affecting HIV susceptibility and PrEP uptake among Latinx SGM subgroups in Miami-Dade County, this paper shares lessons learned and provides concrete recommendations for tailoring survey research and biospecimen collection among a largely immigrant, socioeconomically disadvantaged community that is especially vulnerable to HIV.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: This study evaluated the clinical outcomes of stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR) in the treatment of oligometastatic pelvic node prostate cancer to delay androgen deprivation therapy (ADT).
Materials And Methods: Pelvic lymph node metastases were identified by C-choline positron emission tomography (PET)-computed tomography (CT), and patients were not receiving ADT. SABR was administered using linear accelerators with intensity-modulated and image-guided radiotherapy, at a prescribed dose of 35 Gy in 5 fractions over 2 weeks.
Under an adaptive hypothesis, the reciprocal influence between mutualistic plants and frugivores is expected to result in suites of matching frugivore and plant traits that structure fruit consumption. Recent work has suggested fruit traits can represent adaptations to broad groups of functionally similar frugivores, but the role of frugivore traits and within-species variation in structuring fruit consumption is less understood.
