Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) is one of the most frequent complications of pregnancy and is characterized by a carbohydrate intolerance which is diagnosed with the oral glucose tolerance test. The prevalence of GDM in our population is about 12%, but risk factors like a previous GDM, ethnicity, a parent with diabetes mellitus type 2 and maternal overweight may increase its occurrence. Complications of GDM are a pre-term birth (before 37 wk gestation), macrosomia (birth weight ≥4 kg) and gestational hypertension.

Extra-Virgin Olive Oil Modifies the Changes Induced in Non-Nervous Organs and Tissues by Experimental Autoimmune Encephalomyelitis Models.

This study reveals the existence of oxidative stress (reactive oxygen species (ROS)) in non-nervous organs and tissues in multiple sclerosis (MS) by means of a model of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) in rats. This model reproduces a similar situation to MS, as well as its relationship with intestinal microbiota starting from the changes in bacterial lipopolysaccharide levels (LPS) in the outer wall of the gram-negative bacteria. Finally, the administration of extra-virgin olive oil (EVOO), hydroxytirosol (HT), and oleic acid (OA) exert beneficial effects.

A tissue-mimicking prostate phantom for 980 nm laser interstitial thermal therapy.

To develop a phantom with optical and thermal properties matched to human prostate. This phantom will provide a platform for the development and characterization of 980 nm laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT) systems. Methods: The Pediatric Barcelona Olfactory Test-6 (pBOT-6) consisted of a set of 6 odorants for a forced choice identification test and a 6-dilution phenyl ethyl alcohol geometric series for the threshold test.

In this work, a general, facile, and relatively low-cost method to produce electrically driven non-porous membranes by revalorization of recycled polyolefins is proposed. The polymer matrices are poly(propylene) (PP) and poly(ethylene) (PE) and their corresponding recycled samples, which are respectively mixed with carbon nanotubes (CNT). Procedures: Medical records were reviewed, and data collected included signalment, tumor location, treatment, results of clinicopathologic analyses and diagnostic imaging, adverse effects of chemotherapy, metastasis-free interval, survival time, and communications with owners and referring veterinarians.

Acquired von Willebrand syndrome in a patient with small lymphocytic lymphoma and Sjögren's syndrome: which associated condition should be prioritized?

: Acquired von Willebrand syndrome (AVWS) is a rare hemorrhagic condition that poses both a diagnostic and a therapeutic challenge. Here we report a singular case of AVWS with two associated conditions, small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL) and Sjögren's syndrome. The patient presented with recurrent and severe digestive bleeding that forced us to raise a curative attempt of AVWS.

Antithrombotic treatment and perioperative management in patients with hemophilia remains a challenge. As life expectancy in these patients is increasing, a concern about cardiovascular diseases is emerging. Herein we present the case of a 68 year-old patient with mild hemophilia B and multivessel coronary disease who underwent coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery.

An IoT Surveillance System Based on a Decentralised Architecture.

In the last few years, we witnessed numerous episodes of terrorist attacks and menaces in public crowded places. The necessity of better surveillance in these places pushed the development of new automated solutions to spot and notify possible menaces as fast as possible.
