Article Synopsis
  • This study aimed to explore the relationship between the peritoneal cancer index (PCI), overall survival, and recurrence-free survival in patients with advanced epithelial ovarian cancer who underwent surgery.
  • Out of 351 patients, those who had initial surgery tended to have better survival rates compared to those who had interval surgery, while higher PCI was linked to greater risks of death, particularly in patients receiving neoadjuvant chemotherapy.
  • The findings highlight that while PCI can indicate prognosis, it doesn't allow for a specific cutoff for predicting survival, and its impact is amplified when patients undergo neoadjuvant chemotherapy.

Background: Knowing the homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) status in advanced epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is vital for patient management. HRD is determined by BRCA1/BRCA2 pathogenic variants or genomic instability. However, tumor DNA analysis is inconclusive in 15-19% of cases.

Article Synopsis
  • Genomic testing helps treat ovarian cancer, but getting DNA samples from tumors can be hard because of high failure rates.
  • This study checked if DNA from fluid in the abdomen (called ascites) can be used to measure genetic changes and find cancer markers.
  • Results showed that most samples from patients during chemotherapy had usable tumor DNA, making ascitic fluid a good option for testing instead of doing a biopsy on the tumor itself.

Clozapine is an atypical neuroleptic used to manage treatment-resistant schizophrenia which is known to inhibit cardiac hERG/K11.1 potassium channels, a pharmacological property associated with increased risk of potentially fatal Torsades de Pointes (TdP) and sudden cardiac death (SCD). Yet, the long-standing clinical practice of clozapine does not show a consistent association with increased incidence of TdP, although SCD is considerably higher among schizophrenic patients than in the general population.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study explores the current practices in advanced stage ovarian cancer management in France to evaluate the benefits of centralizing care and to understand evolving practices in the field.
  • - An anonymous survey was conducted among gynecological oncological surgeons, revealing that most respondents manage a low volume of cases personally, yet work in institutions that handle a higher number of cases annually.
  • - Findings suggest that higher individual surgical volume is associated with fewer complications and that minimum volume thresholds at institutions could improve patient outcomes, highlighting the importance of both individual surgeon performance and center volume.

and use the inner membrane transporter DctA to import the pyrimidine biosynthetic pathway intermediate orotate from the environment. To study the regulation of expression, we used an serovar Typhimurium pyrimidine auxotroph to select a mutant that could grow in an otherwise nonpermissive culture medium containing glucose and a low concentration of orotate. Whole genome sequencing revealed a point mutation upstream of in the putative cyclic AMP receptor protein (CRP) binding site.

Drinking fresh grapefruit juice is associated with a significant prolongation of the QT segment on the electrocardiogram (ECG) in healthy volunteers. Among the prominent polyphenols contained in citrus fruits and primarily in grapefruit, the flavonoid naringenin is known to be a blocker of the human ether-a-go-go related gene (hERG) potassium channel. Here we hypothesized that naringenin could interfere with other major ion channels shaping the cardiac ventricular action potential (AP).

Radical hysterectomy with pelvic node dissection is the standard treatment for early-stage cervical cancer. However, the latter can be diagnosed at a young age when patients have not yet achieved their pregnancy plans. Dargent first described the vaginal radical trachelectomy for patients with tumors <2 cm.

The evolution of knowledge in gynecologic oncology is leading to surgical de-escalation in several areas, particularly in lymph node staging. Sentinel lymph node biopsy that was initially used in low and intermediate risk endometrial cancer, has now been extended to high-intermediate and high-risk endometrial cancer. Sentinel lymph node biopsy plays also an important role in the nodal staging of early-stage cervical cancer.

Objectives: The strategy of fertility preservation (FP) in cervical cancer has been challenged for several years and a therapeutic de-escalation seems to be necessary. In this context, we evaluated the oncological, fertility and obstetric outcomes of surgical techniques performed in our centre for FP.

Methods: This retrospective uni centric trial included 75 patients, managed at the Gustave Roussy Institute between 1995 and 2020, for cervical cancer (stage IB1 FIGO 2018) and having conducted a fertility preservation project after a complete pre-therapy work-up.

Hemoptysis could be a life-threatening event, especially when the bleeding originates from the arterial pulmonary circulation. The main cause of this type of bleeding is pulmonary artery pseudoaneurysm (PAP), which can be managed by surgical, medical or minimally invasive techniques. This study reports the case of massive hemoptysis in a 75-year-old male patient, with a former history of lobectomy.

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a non-psychoactive component of Cannabis which has recently received regulatory consideration for the treatment of intractable forms of epilepsy such as the Dravet and the Lennox-Gastaut syndromes. The mechanisms of the antiepileptic effects of CBD are unclear, but several pre-clinical studies suggest the involvement of ion channels. Therefore, we have evaluated the effects of CBD on seven major cardiac currents shaping the human ventricular action potential and on Purkinje fibers isolated from rabbit hearts to assess the in vitro cardiac safety profile of CBD.
