The joints of the fingers play an important role in prehension. They must accomplish both great mobility in the sagittal plane to allow the fingers to roll up and great stability to ensure the grip is both precise and firm. The collateral ligaments and palmar plates are the main passive stabilizing structures between the interphalangeal (IP) and metacarpophalangeal (MCP) joints.

Clinical findings are generally sufficient to make the diagnosis of lateral epicondylitis of the elbow. Ultrasound (US), in conjunction with standard radiography, is a simple and cost-effective way to confirm the diagnosis, and it is also useful for eliminating most differential diagnoses and guiding treatment.US analysis of the muscle bodies and tendon laminae of the lateral epicondyle muscles, starting distally at the wrist and extending up to the lateral epicondyle, assists in understanding the complex fibrous architecture of the proximal tendons inserting on the lateral epicondyle.

Objective: To determine if a lumbar musculature deficiency (paravertebral - PVM - and psoas - PM - muscles) is associated with a higher prevalence of vertebral fractures in osteoporotic patients.

Methods: To constitute the fracture group, data were collected retrospectively from patients with one or more recent osteoporotic vertebral fractures between T10 and L5 such as non-injected computerized tomography (CT), dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). A control group was made by matching the patients on age, bone mineral density measured by DXA and gender.

Objectives: To evaluate muscle signal abnormalities on whole-body muscle MRI with T2 and diffusion-weighted imaging in early ALS stages.

Methods: 101 muscles were analyzed in newly diagnosed ALS patients and healthy controls on a whole-body MRI protocol including four-point T2-Dixon imaging and diffusion-weighted imaging (b0 and b800). Sensitivity and inter-observer agreement were assessed.

Article Synopsis
  • This study aimed to assess how effective percutaneous cryoablation is for treating abdominal wall endometriosis nodules in women over a period from May 2020 to July 2023.!* -
  • A total of 38 women participated, with significant pain reduction noted at 3, 6, and 12 months post-treatment, as measured by the visual analog scale (VAS), with 82% reporting effective pain relief at six months.!* -
  • The procedure resulted in a noticeable decrease in the size and activity of the endometriosis nodules on MRI without any major complications, highlighting its effectiveness as a minimally invasive treatment option.!*

Although the prevalence of Paget's disease has decreased over the past 20 years, incidental discovery on imaging is not unusual. The challenge is to establish the diagnosis, especially in unusual forms that may be mistaken for metastases. This review describes the typical imaging features of Paget's disease and some rare presentations that may be more difficult to recognize.

Core planar cell polarity (PCP) genes, which are involved in various neurodevelopmental disorders such as neural tube closure, epilepsy, and autism spectrum disorder, have poorly defined molecular signatures in neurons, mostly synapse-centric. Here, we show that the core PCP protein Prickle-like protein 2 (Prickle2) controls neuronal polarity and is a previously unidentified member of the axonal initial segment (AIS) proteome. We found that Prickle2 is present and colocalizes with AnkG480, the AIS master organizer, in the earliest stages of axonal specification and AIS formation.

Purpose: To evaluate whether ultrasonography can be used to explore the medial and lateral ligament structures during the acute phase of a closed elbow injury.

Methods: A single-center, prospective study performed between December 2019 and June 2020, including patients who suffered a radial head fracture or elbow dislocation. Two radiologists did a blinded analysis using ultrasonography of visibility, injury grade, and presence of bone avulsion for the radial collateral ligament (RCL), lateral ulnar collateral ligament (LUCL), annular ligament (AL), and anterior (MCLant) and posterior bundles (MCLpost) of the medial collateral ligament.

Purpose: The classification of acetabular fractures remains a challenge for the junior radiologist, although he is the first line of diagnosis in Emergency Department. The advantages of three-dimensional reconstructions have yet to be evaluated on a large scale.

Method: A total of 212 fractures were classified according to Letournel and Judet by a senior orthopaedic surgeon, a senior radiologist, and a resident radiologist.

Scribble (Scrib) is a conserved polarity protein acting as a scaffold involved in multiple cellular and developmental processes. Recent evidence from our group indicates that is also essential for brain development as early global deletion of in the dorsal telencephalon induced cortical thickness reduction and alteration of interhemispheric connectivity. In addition, conditional knockout (cKO) mice have behavioral deficits such as locomotor activity impairment and memory alterations.

Social behavior is a basic domain affected by several neurodevelopmental disorders, including ASD and a heterogeneous set of neuropsychiatric disorders. The gene that codes for the polarity protein SCRIBBLE has been identified as a risk gene for spina bifida, the most common type of neural tube defect, found at high frequencies in autistic patients, as well as other congenital anomalies. The deletions and mutations of the 8q24.

The development of the neuromuscular junction (NMJ) requires dynamic trans-synaptic coordination orchestrated by secreted factors, including Wnt family morphogens. To investigate how these synaptic cues in NMJ development are transduced, particularly in the regulation of acetylcholine receptor (AChR) accumulation in the postsynaptic membrane, we explored the function of Van Gogh-like protein 2 (Vangl2), a core component of Wnt planar cell polarity signaling. We found that conditional, muscle-specific ablation of in mice reproduced the NMJ differentiation defects seen in mice with global deletion.

Objective: Radiographs are first-line imaging in ankle trauma but lack sensitivity to detect ligamentous injuries and undisplaced fractures. Our hypothesis was that ankle injuries occur in predefined sequences along two osteoligamentous rings, so that occult injuries non-visible on initial radiographs can be predicted. We, therefore, aimed to validate a ring model of progressive damages in the interpretation of ankle trauma radiographs.

Introduction: Foot-ankle offset (FAO) is a three-dimensional (3D) biometric measurement of hindfoot alignment (HA) measured on images from weight-bearing computed tomography (WBCT). Our aim was to investigate its distribution in a large cohort of patients, hypothesizing that threshold FAO values in valgus or varus could be identified as markers for increased risk of associated pathologies.

Materials And Methods: Prospective, monocentric, level II study including 125 subjects (250 feet) undergoing bilateral WBCT [58.

Objectives: To assess the diagnostic accuracy of MRI in diagnosing ramp lesions in patients with an acute lesion of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

Materials And Methods: All consecutive patients over 15 years of age who underwent surgical repair of the ACL at a single hospital between January and May 2019, with MRI data available, were included in this retrospective study, except patients who had previous knee surgery. The gold standard was arthroscopic evaluation.

Neurodevelopmental disorders arise from combined defects in processes including cell proliferation, differentiation, migration and commissure formation. The evolutionarily conserved tumor-suppressor protein Scribble (Scrib) serves as a nexus to transduce signals for the establishment of apicobasal and planar cell polarity during these processes. Human SCRIB gene mutations are associated with neural tube defects and this gene is located in the minimal critical region deleted in the rare Verheij syndrome.

GluN2B subunits of NMDA receptors have been proposed as a target for treating age-related memory decline. They are indeed considered as crucial for hippocampal synaptic plasticity and hippocampus-dependent memory formation, which are both altered in aging. Because a synaptic enrichment in GluN2B is associated with hippocampal LTP in vitro, a similar mechanism is expected to occur during memory formation.
