There have been significant advances in the understanding of peritoneal dialysis (PD) in the last 40 years, and uptake of PD as a modality of kidney replacement therapy is increasing worldwide. PD fluids, therefore, remains the lifeline for patients on this treatment. Developing these fluids to be efficacious in solute clearance and ultrafiltration, with minimal adverse consequences to peritoneal membrane health and systemic effects is a key requirement.

Peritoneal dialysis (PD) is the only well-established home-based dialysis therapy in Singapore. As it is a home-based modality, PD should be considered as a preferred mode of kidney replacement therapy (KRT) for patients with kidney failure during this COVID-19 pandemic as it avoids frequent visits to hospitals and/or satellite dialysis centres. The highly infectious nature of this virus has led to the implementation of the Disease Outbreak Response System Condition orange status in Singapore since early February 2020.

Introduction: End stage renal failure patients on hemodialysis have significant vascular calcification This is postulated to be related to sub-clinical vitamin K deficiency, which is prevalent in hemodialysis patients. Vitamin K deficiency result in the failure of the matrix GLA protein (MGP) to undergo carboxylation. MGP is a natural local inhibitor of vascular calcification and the lack of functional carboxylated MGP may contribute to increase vascular calcification.

Purpose: We examined the incidence of myocardial ischemia (MI) in kidney transplant recipients (KTR) using myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI), and its association with long-term outcomes after transplantation.

Methods: A retrospective observational study was conducted of asymptomatic KTRs who underwent post-transplant MPI screening for MI, as defined by moderate to severe myocardial perfusion defects, post-stress myocardial stunning or balanced ischemia. A composite outcome of all-cause mortality, graft loss, and major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) was examined over minimum 5 years.

Background: Electronic health records (EHR) detect the onset of acute kidney injury (AKI) in hospitalized patients, and may identify those at highest risk of mortality and renal replacement therapy (RRT), for earlier targeted intervention.

Methods: Prospective observational study to derive prediction models for hospital mortality and RRT, in inpatients aged ≥18 years with AKI detected by EHR over 1 year in a tertiary institution, fulfilling modified KDIGO criterion based on serial serum creatinine (sCr) measures.

Results: We studied 3333 patients with AKI, of 77,873 unique patient admissions, giving an AKI incidence of 4%.
