A novel Schiff base ligand (L), bearing NO donor sites, was derived from the condensation of 5-chloromethylisophthaldehyde and phenylpropanolamine (PPA). Mononuclear Co(II), Cu(II), and Zn(II) complexes were synthesized and were characterized by FTIR, UV-Vis, H NMR, ESI-mass spectroscopy, molar conductance, and thermal and electrochemical studies. The thermal investigation revealed that the complexes were stable up to 150-250 °C and began to degrade in stages, resulting in the development of respective metal oxides.

In this work, colorless crystals of 2-acetoxybenzoic acid were grown by slow evaporation method and the FT-IR and FT-Raman spectra of the sample were recorded in the region 4000-500cm(-1) and 4000-100cm(-1) respectively. Molecular structure is optimized with the help of density functional theory method (B3LYP) with 6-31+G(d,p), 6-311++G(d,p) basis sets. View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe methodology of deposition of fluoride conversion coatings is modified with the use of galvanic coupling, agitation of the electrolyte solution, and addition of KCO, which helps to provide a better understanding of the mechanism and new avenues to tailor the composition of the coating. A very good correlation exists between the F/O ratio of the coatings prepared under varying experimental conditions and their i, |Z| and phase angle maximum; the higher the F/O ratio, the better the corrosion protective ability of the coatings in Hank's balanced salt solution. The corrosion behaviour of the coatings of the present study suggests that fluoride conversion coatings show much promise for their use for biomedical applications, as long as their uniformity is improved and the composition is tailored to enrich the MgF phase, encompassing a higher F/O ratio.

The growth of large-area, patterned and oriented ZnO nanowires on silicon using a low temperature silicon-CMOS compatible process is demonstrated. Nanowire synthesis takes place using a thin nucleation layer of ZnO deposited by radiofrequency magnetron sputtering, followed by a hydrothermal growth step. No metal catalysts are used in the growth process.

For clusters that consist of more than eight interstitials, the capture of bond-centered interstitials reveals a change in the growth mechanism leading to enhanced stability of clusters.
