Starch-based pH-sensing films with bacterial nanocellulose (BNC) and red cabbage anthocyanins (RCA) as active components were investigated in this research. Their structural, physical, surface and colorimetric properties were analyzed, mainly as a function of BNC concentration. The aim of the research was to relate the changes in the intermolecular interactions between the components of the films (starch, anthocyanins and BNC) to the physical, surface and colorimetric properties that are important for the primary intended application of the produced films as pH indicators in smart packaging.

A quantitative analysis of the morphology, as well as an analysis of the distribution of components and surface/interfacial properties in poly(lactic acid)(PLA) InegoTM 3251D, poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) Capa 6800 and nano-silica (SiO) Aerosil200 blends, was conducted in this research. The study aimed to improve the understanding of how PLA, PCL, and nano-SiO interact, resulting in the specific morphology and surface properties of the blends. Samples were produced by varying the concentration of all three components.

In this study, the surface modification of thin ink films with added nanoparticles was used to improve the functional properties of ink applied on paperboard substrates. The surface modification was performed by additional exposure of the samples to xenon radiation. Anatase TiO, rutile TiO and ZnO were added to the base ink.

In this study, the mechanical and thermal properties of poly(lactic acid) (PLA) blends with an addition of poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) and fumed silica (SiO) were evaluated to research the possibility of their use as relief printing plates for embossing processes. PCL and nano-silica were added to the PLA matrix at different concentrations. Morphological, thermal and mechanical analyses were performed to determine the properties and possible functional characteristics of the studied blends.

The aim of this work is to develop a microprocessor-based sensor that measures the quality of the offset printing plate through the introduction of different image analysis applications. The main features of the presented system are the low cost, the low amount of power consumption, its modularity and easy integration with other industrial modules for printing plates, and its robustness against noise environments. For the sake of clarity, a viability analysis of previous software is presented through different strategies, based on dynamic histogram and Hough transform.
