Background: The risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a preventable complication of trauma in ambulatory patients requiring temporary lower limb immobilisation. We introduced a VTE risk assessment and management tool in fracture clinics, to help improve appropriate VTE management of trauma patients that do not require hospitalisation. Purpose: To provide information on the type of "hypersensitivity-friendly" components available for primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA) in the current market.

Materials And Methods: Implant manufactures were identified using the 2013 National Joint Registries of the United Kingdom and Sweden and contacted to obtain information about the products they offer for patients with metal hypersensitivity.

Results: Information on 23 TKA systems was provided by 13 implant manufacturers.

We hypothesised that local infiltration of anaesthesia (LIA) containing adrenaline may reduce peri-operative blood loss and transfusion requirements in primary total knee arthroplasty patients (TKA) when compared to simple patient control analgesia (PCA). In this retrospective cohort study there were 22 TKAs in the PCA group and 27 TKAs in the LIA group. There were no drains used or significant differences in demographics between groups.

The evaluation of lateral knee pain in patients with a medial unicompartmental knee replacement (UKR) is complex. The native lateral compartment structures are prone to the same injuries as patients with normal knees. Historical reports of lateral meniscal injury post medial UKR have argued MRI evaluation is obsolete due to artefact caused by the prosthesis.

Unlabelled: AIMS AND INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study was to assess whether navigated total knee arthroplasty (TKA) reduces peri-operative blood loss and post-operative length of stay when compared to conventional total knee arthroplasty techniques.

Patients And Methods: A retrospective case-note review of 143 patients undergoing primary elective total knee arthroplasty was carried out. Two surgeons in this institution perform conventional knee arthroplasty using intramedullary alignment with another two surgeons using the computer assisted technique.
