Progress toward poliomyelitis eradication in Kano State, Nigeria, 2010 - 2017.

Introduction: Kano State in Northern Nigeria was a major source of Wild Polio Virus (WPV) cases in Nigeria up until 2015. In 2009, the State reported 168 WPV cases out of the 388 reported nationally. This paper characterizes the progress made by Kano State in polio eradication.

Hybridising inorganic materials with fluorescent BOPHY dyes: A structural and optical comparative study.

This study presents the design and characterization of new monochromatic light-harvesting systems based on inorganic porous materials hybridized with organic dye molecules within their structure. A new fluorescent BOPHY dye was prepared, characterized optically and used as both reference and synthetic precursor for two alkoxysilane derivatives that were incorporated separately within a silica structure. The dyes, one bearing one alkoxysilane group and the other one two, were co-condensed with tetraethyl orthosilicate to form a hybrid organo-silica framework, where they are found at specific locations.

Rule-Based Detection of False Data Injections Attacks against Optimal Power Flow in Power Systems.

Cyber-security of modern power systems has captured a significant interest. The vulnerabilities in the cyber infrastructure of the power systems provide an avenue for adversaries to launch cyber attacks. An example of such cyber attacks is False Data Injection Attacks (FDIA).

Turning weak emitters into outstanding luminescent materials using rigid host media.

The incorporation into rigid silica host structures leads successfully to a significant luminescence enhancement of two zinc(ii) dipyrrins, known to be weak emitters in solution. One of these complexes shows a fluorescence efficiency of 55% and prolonged photo-stability once entrapped in silica, demonstrating high potential for applications in energy conversion.

Using the polio programme to deliver primary health care in Nigeria: implementation research.

Objective: To evaluate a project that integrated essential primary health-care services into the oral polio vaccine programme in hard-to-reach, underserved communities in northern Nigeria.

Methods: In 2013, Nigeria's polio emergency operation centre adopted a new approach to rapidly raise polio immunity and reduce newborn, child and maternal morbidity and mortality. We identified, trained and equipped eighty-four mobile health teams to provide free vaccination and primary-care services in 3176 hard-to-reach settlements.
