Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigated the potential of exopolysaccharides (EPSs) from endophytic fungi to counteract health issues caused by arsenic (As(III)), focusing on their effects on metabolic and reproductive problems.
  • - Two fungi (Diaporthe arengae and Fusarium proliferatum) were used to extract EPSs, which demonstrated abilities like reducing oxidative stress, correcting hormonal imbalances, and influencing apoptosis-related markers after exposure to arsenic.
  • - The research suggested that the components of the EPSs might interact with androgen receptors, limiting their activity and highlighting EPSs as promising candidates for new treatments targeting arsenic toxicity.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to systematically investigate symptoms associated with commonly prescribed homeopathic medicines using Bayesian statistics for more accurate likelihood ratios (LR).
  • Conducted over 21 months with 1,954 patients, the research utilized the ORIDL scale to measure treatment outcomes and calculated LRs for four specific symptoms linked to six selected homeopathic remedies.
  • Findings revealed high LR+ scores for symptoms like "dyspepsia from business anxiety" and "burning pain relieved by heat," supporting existing homeopathic literature, but emphasized the need for further research to confirm results in larger populations.

Introduction: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is leading to unknown and unusual health conditions that are challenging to manage. Post-COVID-19 fatigue is one of those challenges, becoming increasingly common as the pandemic evolves, as it impairs the quality of life of an individual. This trial attempts to identify the preliminary evidence of the efficacy of individualized homeopathic medicines (IHMs) against placebos in the treatment of post-COVID-19 fatigue in adults.

  • A study was conducted to evaluate the effects of individualized homeopathic treatments versus placebos on patients with warts, aiming to lay groundwork for future research.
  • The double-blind trial involved 60 participants and measured changes in wart size and quantity, as well as quality of life, over three months, revealing significant improvements within the homeopathy group but not between groups.
  • Ultimately, the results were inconclusive regarding the effectiveness of homeopathy, although there was a slight tendency favoring homeopathy without any reported negative side effects.

The authors aimed to document prescriptions and clinical outcomes in routine homeopathic practice to short list promising areas of targeted research and efficacy trials of homeopathy in obstetrics and gynecology (O&G). Three homeopathic physicians participated in methodical data collection over a 3-month period in the O&G outpatient setting of The Calcutta Homeopathic Medical College and Hospital, West Bengal, India. A specifically designed Excel spreadsheet was used to record data on consecutive appointments, including date, patient identity, socioeconomic status, place of abode, religion, medical condition/complaint, whether chronic/acute, new/follow-up case, patient-assessed outcome (7-point Likert scale: -3 to +3), prescribed homeopathic medication, and whether other medication/s was being taken for the condition.

Pseudogenes are defined as non-functional relatives of genes whose protein-coding abilities are lost and are no longer expressed within cells. They are an outcome of accumulation of mutations within a gene whose end product is not essential for survival. Proper investigation of the procedure of pseudogenization is relevant for estimating occurrence of duplications in genomes.

Selective modulators of GABA(A) alpha(3) (gamma amino butyric acid alpha(3)) receptor are known to alleviate the side effects associated with nonspecific modulators. A follow up study was undertaken on a series of functionally selective phthalazines with an ideological credo of identifying more potent isofunctional chemotypes. A bioisosteric database enumerated using the combichem approach endorsed mining in a lead-like chemical space.
