Chronic kidney disease patients are at high risk for infections because of multidrug-resistant organisms. Infections are the second most common cause of death in patients with ESRD. Patients with ESRD are prone to infections given alterations in immunity, increased rates of colonization with multidrug-resistant organisms, increased hospitalizations, and interactions with health care systems.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFA 52-year-old male patient with a history of sarcoidosis and over 10 years of chronic low-dose glucocorticoid use, cirrhosis and type 2 diabetes mellitus presented with two painful, enlarging subcutaneous nodules ultimately identified as Colletotrichum gloeosporioides. Two attempts at needle aspiration of the larger nodule resulted in rapid reaccumulation. Complete surgical excision of both nodules resulted in complete resolution without the use of any concomitant antifungals.
