Article Synopsis
  • Preventing post-weaning diarrhea (PWD) in piglets is essential for swine production, as the stress from weaning and dietary changes affects gut health and increases pathogens.
  • Research on Lactiplantibacillus argentoratensis AGMB00912 (LA) shows that its supplementation significantly improves growth metrics and reduces diarrhea symptoms in weaned piglets by enhancing beneficial gut bacteria and gut barrier integrity.
  • Overall, LA supplementation is a promising strategy for promoting intestinal health and decreasing the severity of PWD during the critical weaning period in piglets.

Maintaining a healthy intestinal environment, optimal epithelial barrier integrity, and balanced gut microbiota composition are essential for the growth performance of weaning pigs. We identified AGMB00912 (LA) in healthy porcine feces as having antimicrobial activity against pathogens and enhanced short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) production. Herein, we assess the protective role of LA using a weaning mouse model with enterotoxigenic (ETEC) infection.

Gamma entrainment through sensory stimulation has the potential to reduce the pathology of Alzheimer's disease in mouse models. However, clinical trials in Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients have yielded inconsistent results, necessitating further investigation. This single-center pre-post intervention study aims to explore the influence of white matter microstructural integrity on gamma rhythm propagation from the visual cortex to AD-affected regions in 31 cognitively normal volunteers aged ≥ 65.

With aging, optimal parameters of flickering light stimulation (FLS) for gamma entrainment may change in the eyes and brain. We investigated the optimal FLS parameters for gamma entrainment in 35 cognitively normal old adults by comparing event-related synchronization (ERS) and spectral Granger causality (sGC) of entrained gamma rhythms between different luminance intensities, colors, and flickering frequencies of FLSs. ERS entrained by 700 cd/m FLS and 32 Hz or 34 Hz FLSs was stronger than that entrained by 400 cd/m at Pz (p < 0.

Beyond its use in a clinical environment, photoplethysmogram (PPG) is increasingly used for measuring the physiological state of an individual in daily life. This review aims to examine existing research on photoplethysmogram concerning its generation mechanisms, measurement principles, clinical applications, noise definition, pre-processing techniques, feature detection techniques, and post-processing techniques for photoplethysmogram processing, especially from an engineering point of view. We performed an extensive search with the PubMed, Google Scholar, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), ScienceDirect, and Web of Science databases.

Macrophages play a key role in chronic inflammation, and are the most abundant immune cells in the tumor microenvironment. We investigated whether an interaction between inflamed prostate cancer cells stimulated with Trichomonas vaginalis and macrophages stimulates the proliferation of the cancer cells. Conditioned medium was prepared from T.

Our objective was to investigate whether inflammatory microenvironment induced by Trichomonas vaginalis infection can stimulate proliferation of prostate cancer (PCa) cells in vitro and in vivo mouse experiments. The production of CXCL1 and CCL2 increased when cells of the mouse PCa cells (TRAMP-C2 cell line) were infected with live T. vaginalis.

Although light flickering at 40 Hz reduced Alzheimer's disease (AD) pathologies in mice by entraining gamma waves, it failed to reduce cerebral amyloid burden in a study on six patients with AD or mild cognitive impairment. We investigated the optimal color, intensity, and frequency of the flickering light stimulus for entraining gamma waves in young adults. We compared the event-related synchronization (ERS) values of entrained gamma waves between four different light colors (white, red, green, and blue) in the first experiment and four different luminance intensities in the second experiment.

Background: Chronic inflammation has a role in the pathogenesis of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and prostate cancer. Mast cells have been detected in chronic inflammatory infiltrate of the prostate, and it is possible that the interaction between prostate epithelial cells and Trichomonas vaginalis influences the activity of mast cells in the prostate stroma. Activated mast cells might influence the biological functions of nearby tissues and cells.

Introduction: Herpes zoster is a well-known reactivating viral disease that gives rise to painful skin lesions. Although this vesicular rash heals up within a few weeks, pain sometimes continues, becoming postherpetic neuralgia. In the case of those at high risk of developing postherpetic neuralgia, early interventional pain management is generally recommended as a preventive measure.

Article Synopsis
  • Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract, worsened by stress like sleep deprivation, and can be treated with melatonin.
  • A study using a mouse model of colitis showed that sleep deprivation led to weight loss and increased disease severity, while melatonin helped reduce inflammation.
  • The research identified specific genes such as adiponectin and aquaporin 8 affected by sleep deprivation and melatonin treatment, suggesting their roles in inflammation regulation.

3-Aminophenol (3AP) has two conformers, cis and trans, depending on the orientation of the OH group relative to the NH(2) group. While both conformers are found in the jet-cooled spectra of 3AP, only the trans isomer was found in the REMPI spectrum of the 3AP(NH(3))(1) cluster. It was suggested that the cis conformer of the cluster isomerizes to the more stable trans conformer in the ground state during supersonic expansion.

Vibrational and electronic spectra of protonated naphthalene (NaphH(+)) microsolvated by one and two water molecules were obtained by photofragmentation spectroscopy. The IR spectrum of the monohydrated species is consistent with a structure with the proton located on the aromatic molecule, NaphH(+)-H(2)O. Similar to isolated NaphH(+), the first electronic transition of NaphH(+)-H(2)O (S(1)) occurs in the visible range near 500 nm.
