Purpose: The usability of a new surgical navigation system that provides patient-specific vascular information for robotic gastrectomy in gastric cancer remains unexplored for laparoscopic gastrectomy owing to differences in surgical environments. This study aimed to evaluate the applicability and safety of this navigation system in laparoscopic gastrectomy and to compare the post-operative outcomes between procedures with and without its use.
Materials And Methods: Between June 2022 and July 2023, 38 patients across 2 institutions underwent laparoscopic gastrectomy using a navigation system (navigation group).

Obesity by itself is a factor in the development of gallstone disease, and periods of weight loss after bariatric surgery further increase the risk of gallstone formation. In patients with obesity, hypersecretion of cholesterol may increase the risk of gallstone formation, which is approximately five-fold higher than that in the general population. The incidence of gallstone formation after bariatric surgery is 10-38% and often associated with a proportional increase in the risk of developing biliary complications.

Importance: The long-term safety of laparoscopic distal gastrectomy for locally advanced gastric cancer (AGC) remains uncertain given the lack of 5-year follow-up results.
Objective: To compare the 5-year follow-up results in patients with clinically AGC enrolled in the Korean Laparoendoscopic Gastrointestinal Surgery Study (KLASS)-02 randomized clinical trial who underwent laparoscopic or open distal gastrectomy.
Design, Setting, And Participants: The KLASS-02, a multicenter randomized clinical trial, showed that laparoscopic surgery was noninferior to open surgery for patients with locally AGC.

Laparoscopic surgery is rapidly evolving with technological advances, but there are several drawbacks. An articulating device, with freedom of a perfect 360°, is attractive as a solution to overcome the restriction of instrument movement caused by straight tools. Its usefulness or efficacy should be supported by relevant scientific evidence.
