Introduction: Allodynia, which can be induced by paclitaxel administration, is the presence of pain as a result of a stimulus that does not usually provoke pain. Many studies have investigated the analgesic efficacy of acupuncture, including laser acupuncture (LA) and electroacupuncture (EA). Although pain-related diseases are relatively common, few studies have analyzed the analgesic effects and mechanisms of LA combined with EA.

Article Synopsis
  • Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) typically spreads locally but rarely metastasizes systemically, prompting research into the molecular mechanisms that prevent its spread outside the brain.
  • In experiments using mouse models, patient-derived GBM cells caused spontaneous lung metastasis in one type of mouse, indicating that the absence of natural killer (NK) cell activity may facilitate this process.
  • The study suggests that enhancing NK cell activity could serve as a potential immunotherapy for GBM, as these cells can induce cell death in GBM cells and reduce the chance of systemic metastasis.

Ex vivo-expanded, allogeneic natural killer (NK) cells can be used for the treatment of various types of cancer. In allogeneic NK cell therapy, NK cells from healthy donors must be expanded in order to obtain a sufficient number of highly purified, activated NK cells. In the present study, we established a simplified and efficient method for the large-scale expansion and activation of NK cells from healthy donors under good manufacturing practice (GMP) conditions.

In order to determine whether Pseudomonas aeruginosa alkaline protease AprA is involved in facilitating siderophore-mediated iron-acquisition from human transferrins, we measured bacterial growth, the production of siderophore and AprA, iron-acquisition from transferrins, and the proteolytic cleavage of transferrins in an alkaline minimal medium (pH 8.3) containing human transferrins as an iron source and compared these on a time scale. The growth of P.
