This study aimed to evaluate the effects of nanoparticulate CaCO (NPCC) on the biological properties of calcium silicate-based cements (CSCs), including their cytotoxicity, in vitro osteogenic activity, and interactions with rat femur tissue. The average size of NPCC was 90.3±26.

In modern cloud environments, container orchestration tools are essential for effectively managing diverse workloads and services, and Kubernetes has become the de facto standard tool for automating the deployment, scaling, and operation of containerized applications. While Kubernetes plays an important role in optimizing and managing the deployment of diverse services and applications, its default scheduling approach, which is not optimized for all types of workloads, can often result in poor performance and wasted resources. This is particularly true in environments with complex interactions between services, such as microservice architectures.

Premixed calcium silicate cements (pCSCs) contain vehicles which endow fluidity and viscosity to CSCs. This study aimed to investigate the effects of three vehicles, namely, polyethylene glycol (PEG), propylene glycol (PG), and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), on the physicochemical properties and biocompatibility of pCSCs. The setting time, solubility, expansion rate, and mechanical strength of the pCSCs were evaluated, and the formation of calcium phosphate precipitates was assessed in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS).

The control of macrophage polarization is important in bone tissue regeneration such as osseointegration. In this study, a coating method was developed to improve the osseointegration of titanium (Ti) implants by generating an immunomodulatory effect. The surface of the Ti discs was coated with a poly(lactide--glycolide)(PLGA) polymer, phosphatidylserine (PS), and arginine-glycine-aspartic acid (RGD) peptide conjugated phospholipid.

Object: Phosphatidylserine-containing liposomes (PSLs) can mimic the immunomodulatory effects of apoptotic cells by binding to the phosphatidylserine receptors of macrophages. Sodium butyrate, an antiinflammatory short-chain fatty acid, is known to facilitate the M2 polarization of macrophages. This study aimed to investigate the effect of sodium butyrate on PSLs-induced macrophage polarization.

Reducing the time to diagnose COVID-19 helps to manage insufficient isolation-bed resources and adequately accommodate critically ill patients. There is currently no alternative method to real-time reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), which requires 40 cycles to diagnose COVID-19. We propose a deep learning (DL) model to improve the speed of COVID-19 RT-PCR diagnosis.

Phosphatidylserine-containing liposomes (PSLs) can mimic the anti-inflammatory effects of apoptotic cells by binding to the phosphatidylserine receptors of macrophages. MGF-E8, a bridge molecule between phosphatidylserine and macrophages, can promote M2 polarization by activating macrophage integrin with its arginine-glycine-aspartic acid (RGD) motif. In this study, to mimic MGF-E8, PSLs presenting RGD peptide (RGD-PSLs) were prepared, and their immunomodulatory effects on macrophages and the bone tissue regeneration of rat calvarial defects were investigated.

In this study, seven oligonucleotides primers were shown to generate the shared loci, specific loci, unique shared loci to each species and shared loci by the three species which could be obviously calculated. Euclidean genetic distances within- and between-species were also calculated by complete linkage method with the sustenance of the hierarchical dendevrepogram program Systat version 13. The genomic DNA isolated from herring (Clupea pallasii), Korean anchovy (Coilia nasus) and large-eyed herring (Harengula zunashi), respectively, in the Yellow Sea, were amplified several times by PCR reaction.

The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the effect of dietary mistletoe extracts on non-specific immune response and disease resistance of Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) against Aeromonas hydrophila infection. Tilapia fingerlings were fed with a diet containing 0 mg as a control, 10 mg, 50 mg, and 200 mg mistletoe powder kg(-1) dry diet for 80 days. The immunological parameters, respiratory burst activity, lysozyme activity, alternative complement haemolysis activity (ACH(50)), and phagocytic activity of fish were investigated following 20, 40 and 80 days of feeding.

Essential oils are mixtures of volatile, lipophilic compounds originating from plants. Some essential oils have useful biological activities including antimicrobial, spasmolytic, antiplasmodial, and insect-repelling activities. In this study, we tested the antimicrobial activity of essential oil prepared from the aromatic plant, Cymbopogon citrates, against three important plant pathogenic and medical microorganisms, Pectobacterium carotovorum, Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, and Aspergillus niger.

Objectives: To estimate the prevalence of ED in electrical injury patients and correlate the results with the electric voltage and the pathway of electric current at the time of injury.

Methods: Mails and phone surveys had been undertaken to 416 electrical injury patients who had been admitted with electrical injury to our burn care center from November 1998 to December 2003. Patients were given a self-complete questionnaire, including international index of erectile function (IIEF-5).

The present study was performed to investigate the immunostimulatory effects of Korean mistletoe extract (KM-110; Viscum album Coloratum) on the non-specific immune response and protection against Aeromonas hydrophila infection in Japanese eel (Anguilla japonica). Eels were fed under 4 regimes, 0%, 0.1%, 0.

The cDNA sequence of the Japanese flounder (Paralychthys olivaceus) IgD has been previously reported (GenBank accession no. AB052658) and this was followed by the detection of IgD mRNA expression in some flounder organ tissues. However, it has not been determined whether the flounder IgD gene is virtually expressed into IgD protein.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers purified immunoglobulins (Igs) from flounder fish using mouse IgG and found that they consist of two heavy (H) and two light (L) chains of different sizes, identified through SDS-PAGE analysis.
  • Monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) specific to these Igs were generated by fusing myeloma cells with spleen cells from mice immunized against purified flounder Igs, and these MAbs recognized both heavy and light chains in Western blot tests.
  • Despite high percentages of Ig+ cells detected in the flounder's head kidney and spleen, the expected increase in Ig+ B-like cells after immunization was not observed, indicating that the fish's immune response
