The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has significantly impacted global health and has led the population and the scientific community to live in fear of a future pandemic. Based on viral infectious diseases, innate immunity cells such as mast cells and basophils play a fundamental role in the pathogenesis of viral diseases. Understanding these mechanisms could be essential to better study practical therapeutic approaches not only to COVID-19 but also to other viral infections widely spread worldwide, such as influenza A, HIV, and dengue.

Effect of Fluid Intake on Acute Changes in Plasma Volume: A Randomized Controlled Crossover Pilot Trial.

Plasma volume (PV) undergoes constant and dynamic changes, leading to a large intra-day variability in healthy individuals. Hydration is known to induce PV changes; however, the response to the intake of osmotically different fluids is still not fully understood. In a randomized controlled crossover trial, 18 healthy individuals (10 females) orally received an individual amount of an isotonic sodium-chloride (ISO), Ringer (RIN), or glucose (GLU) solution.

Bilateral Cryptococcal Choroiditis in a Human Immunodeficiency Virus-Infected Patient: A Case Report.

Introduction: In this case report, we present a rare case of bilateral cryptococcal choroiditis following a diagnosis of meningitis in a 38-year-old woman with HIV.

Case Presentation: A Colombian woman, newly diagnosed with HIV, presented with respiratory distress followed by meningeal syndrome. Further evaluation revealed cryptococcal meningitis caused by , confirmed through cerebrospinal fluid analysis and brain magnetic resonance imaging.

Linezolid (LZD) has a longstanding reported association with the onset of serotonin toxicity (ST), secondary to drug-drug interactions with serotoninergic agents. We present new constraints on sub-GeV dark-matter particles scattering off electrons based on 6780.0 kg d of data collected with the DarkSide-50 dual-phase argon time projection chamber. This analysis uses electroluminescence signals due to ionized electrons extracted from the liquid argon target.

Low-Mass Dark Matter Search with the DarkSide-50 Experiment.

We present the results of a search for dark matter weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) in the mass range below 20  GeV/c^{2} using a target of low-radioactivity argon with a 6786.0 kg d exposure. The data were obtained using the DarkSide-50 apparatus at Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso.

Performance of FDG-PET/CT in solitary pulmonary nodule based on pre-test likelihood of malignancy: results from the ITALIAN retrospective multicenter trial.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the performance of F-FDG-PET/CT in patients with solitary pulmonary nodule (SPN), stratifying the risk according to the likelihood of pulmonary malignancy.

Methods: FDG-PET/CT of 502 patients, stratified for pre-test cancer risk, were retrospectively analyzed. FDG uptake in SPN was assessed by a 4-point scoring system and semiquantitative analysis using the ratio between SUVmax in SPN and SUVmean in mediastinal blood pool (BP) and between SUVmax in SPN and SUVmean in liver (L).

Materials And Methods: In this multicenter retrospective study, 68 patients with adrenal malignancy were included. All patients had histologically proven diagnosis of primary adrenal malignancy (adrenocortical carcinoma, malignant pheochromocytoma, neuroblastoma and lymphoma), one whole body (18)F-FDG PET/CT scan and one whole-body contrast enhancement computed tomography (CECT) scan acquired within one month and were followed clinically and by performing morphological tests for at least 12 months.
