Purpose: To check epidemiological data from a breast diagnostic clinic.

Methods: Mammographies from 35,041 patients were studied, within a period of 2 years and 7 months, from 2004 to 2006, 32,049 (91.5%) of them from screening, and 2,992 from symptomatic patients (8.

As the prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus is increasing at an alarming rate, effective nutritional and exercise strategies for the prevention of this disease are required. Specific dietary components with antidiabetic efficacy could be one aspect of these strategies. This study investigated the antidiabetic effects of the most abundant green tea catechin, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG, TEAVIGO), in rodent models of type 2 diabetes mellitus and H4IIE rat hepatoma cells.

Background: This study investigated the antiobesity effects of TEAVIGO, a product providing the most abundant green tea catechin, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), in a pure form. Two models of diet-induced obesity and an in vitro adipocyte differentiation assay were employed.

Methods: Prevention and regression of diet-induced obesity by dietary supplementation with EGCG was studied in C57BL/6J mice and Sprague-Dawley rats, respectively.

Soy protein was shown to exhibit several beneficial effects on renal function in nondiabetic patients with nephropathy, and to improve serum lipids. This study examined the effects of isolated soy protein consumption on urinary albumin excretion, serum lipids, plasma amino acids, and isoflavones in diabetic patients with nephropathy. Male patients (n = 14) with type 2 diabetes and nephropathy were followed in a crossover design for 7 mo.

Protein restriction is used conventionally in the prevention and treatment of diabetic nephropathy. Recently, the use of soy protein instead of animal protein has been postulated as a new preventive and treatment option. The aim of this study was to determine the qualitative and quantitative effects of dietary protein on biomarkers of diabetic nephropathy in a Type 2 diabetes mellitus mouse model (BKS.

Male gerbils (28 d old) were used to investigate the beta-carotene (betaC) isomer pattern in the intestine and tissues 6 h after ingestion of three betaC isomers. After a 49- to 52-d period of consuming the AIN93G diet without vitamin A (VA) or betaC, three groups (n = 7) were gavaged with crystalline all-trans (at)betaC, 9-cis (9c)betaC or 13-cis (13c)betaC solubilized in oil and a control group (n = 5) with oil alone. Total betaC per dose for gerbils in the atbetaC, 9cbetaC and 13cbetaC groups was 384 +/- 3, 391 +/- 2 and 386 +/- 2 nmol, respectively.
