Tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF) is an antiretroviral drug extensively used by people living with HIV. The TDF molecule is hydrolysed in vivo and liberates tenofovir, the active part of the molecule. Tenofovir is a very stable drug and the discharge of its residues into the environment can potentially lead to risk for aquatic species.

Translation and Validation of the Brazilian Version of the European Obesity Academy Questionnaire on Patients' Motivations for Seeking Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

Purpose: Understanding patients' motives for undergoing metabolic and bariatric surgery (MBS) is key to managing postoperative expectations. We aimed to translate and validate the 14-item European Obesity Academy Questionnaire on Expectations about Surgical Treatment (EOAQ-EST) to Brazilian Portuguese for research and clinical use.

Materials And Methods: This study included a total of 198 candidates for MBS at a reference academic hospital in Brazil from January 2021 to February 2022.

Development of Tenebrio molitor (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) on Poultry Litter-Based Diets: Effect on Chemical Composition of Larvae.

In order to investigate a low-cost and sustainable food source, the present study evaluated the use of poultry litter for rearing Tenebrio molitor Linnaeus, 1758 (Coleoptera:  Tenebrionidae). The experiment was performed with five diets containing increasing levels of poultry litter (0, 25, 50, 75, and 100%) replacing the control diet and five replicates with 50 larvae per sample unit. Heparin solution in the prevention of occlusions in Hickman® catheters a randomized clinical trial.

Method: descriptive, retrospective, qualitative approach. The source of data were the notifications of incidents that occurred between January 2012 and May 2015, as well as the information available on the medical records of patients involved in incidents with the Hickman® catheter.

Synthesis and Charaterization of Silica-Based Aldehyde Chitosan Hybrid Material for Biodiesel Purification.

This study concerns the development and charaterization of Silica-based aldehyde Chitosan hybrid material as an adsorbent for biodiesel purification. This biocomposite was prepared by sol-gel route and oxidation with periodate, and then characterized. FTIR experiments showed that the hybrid formed presents absorption bands similar to those of Chitosan-Silica, with the exception of the vibrations at 1480 cm and 1570 cm attributed to the symmetrical angular deformation in the N-H plane, and possess large N₂ Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) surface areas.

Impact of the pneumococcal 10-valent vaccine on reducing hospitalization for community-acquired pneumonia in children.

Objective: To describe and analyze the occurrence of hospitalizations for community-acquired pneumonia in children before and after the pneumococcal 10-valent conjugate vaccine implementation into the National Immunization Program.

Methods: This is an ecological study that includes records of children younger than one year old, vaccinated and not vaccinated with the pneumococcal 10-valent conjugate vaccine in the periods pre- and post-inclusion of the vaccine in the National Immunization Program in the area covered by the Regional Health Superintendence of Alfenas, state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Vaccination was considered as the exposure factor and hospitalization for community-acquired pneumonia as the endpoint, using secondary annual data by municipality.

Downregulation of PHEX in multibacillary leprosy patients: observational cross-sectional study.

Background: Peripheral nerve injury and bone lesions, well known leprosy complications, lead to deformities and incapacities. The phosphate-regulating gene with homologies to endopeptidase on the X chromosome (PHEX) encodes a homonymous protein (PHEX) implicated in bone metabolism. PHEX/PHEX alterations may result in bone and cartilage lesions.

Detection of intestinal parasites on field-grown strawberries in the Federal District of Brazil.

Introduction: This study evaluated the presence of pathogenic human parasites on field-grown strawberries in the Federal District of Brazil.

Methods: A total of 48 samples of strawberries and 48 soil samples from 16 properties were analyzed.

Results: Contaminated strawberries were detected in 56% of the properties.

Background/aim: The interaction of neoplastic cells with the extracellular matrix is a critical event for the initiation of cancer invasion and metastasis. We evaluated the relationship between the expression of SPARC, ITGAV, THBS1 and VCAM-1 genes of extracellular matrix in the progression and dissemination of colorectal cancer (CRC).

Patients And Methods: Adult patients (N=114) underwent resection of CRC.

This investigation intended to evaluate the association between FN-1, ITGA-3, ITGB-5, MMP-2, and MMP-9 gene and protein expression levels in tumor tissue with clinical and histopathological neoplastic parameters of cancer dissemination. The expression associations between ECM molecules and selected epithelial markers EGFR, VEGF, Bcl2, P53, and KI-67 have also been examined in 114 patients with colorectal cancer who underwent primary tumor resection.

Adolescent hypertension identified with correct cuff and its cardiovascular and gestational problems after 29 years.

Objective: to identify, in 2011, rates of hypertension, cardiovascular and gestational problems in subjects presenting high blood pressure in 1982, when correct cuff size was used, according to the American Heart Association Arm Circumference/Cuff Width ratio of 0.40.

Methods: high blood pressure was defined in 2011 as systolic = 115 mmHg and diastolic = 80mmHg, resulting in 20 subjects between 39 and 43 years old.

Primary monophasic synovial sarcoma of the kidney: a case report and review of literature.

Primary synovial sarcoma (SS) of the kidney is a rare neoplasm and its presenting features are similar to other common renal tumors, making early diagnosis difficult. To date, few cases have been reported in the literature. Primary renal SSs can exist in either a monophasic or a biphasic pattern, the former being more common and tending to have a better prognosis than the biphasic variant.

Giant cell tumor of the sternum.

We report the case of a 74-year-old female patient diagnosed with a giant cell tumor of the sternum. The clinical and radiological presentation was indicative of a primary tumor of the sternum. The patient underwent complementary tests and surgery.

[Evaluative study of nursing consultation in the basic networks of Curitiba, Brazil].

The implementation of the electronic health record in the basic networks of Curitiba enabled an advance in the implementation of the nursing consultation and the ICNPCH, whose modeling uses the ICNP axes structure and the ICNPCH list of action. The objective of this study was to evaluate the nursing consultation from the productivity and assistance coverage perspective. The studied population was obtained from a secondary database of nursing consultations from April to June of 2005.

[Social network and health promotion of homeless population].

One of the outcomes of globalization has been a constant increase of the number of people living in the streets of metropolis such as São Paulo: those are not only homeless, but also people who live in the streets and earn their living from it. We have surveyed the institutions working with adult homeless population in the central region of Sao Paulo. Their goals and strategies were described, as well as how they associate with each other.
