Article Synopsis
  • The size of the field of view (FOV) in cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) impacts both image quality and patient radiation dose, necessitating careful selection based on therapeutic goals.
  • The study assessed how different FOV sizes affect the contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) across five different CBCT units using scanned images from a dried human mandible with simulated soft tissue.
  • Results indicated that smaller FOVs significantly reduced CNR (P<0.05), highlighting a direct relationship between FOV size and image quality, although variations in exposure settings across devices affected the CNR outcomes for similarly sized FOVs.

Purpose: This study evaluated the diagnostic accuracy of the reverse contrast mode in intraoral digital radiography for the detection of proximal dentinal caries, in comparison with the original digital radiographs.

Materials And Methods: Eighty extracted premolars with no clinically apparent caries were selected, and digital radiographs of them were taken separately in standard conditions. Four observers examined the original radiographs and the same radiographs in the reverse contrast mode with the goal of identifying proximal dentinal caries.
