Article Synopsis
  • The study assessed how well children and young adults in Brazil could evaluate their own sexual maturity compared to evaluations made by physicians, focusing on physical traits like breasts and pubic hair in girls, and genitals and pubic hair in boys.
  • Overall, there was a moderate to high agreement (60.9-71.3%) between self-assessments and physician assessments, with better agreement for pubic hair than for breasts or genitals.
  • The accuracy of self-evaluation was mainly influenced by the individual's stage of sexual maturation rather than their age.
