Background: Cascade screening, defined as helping at-risk relatives get targeted genetic testing of familial variants for dominant hereditary cancer syndromes, is a proven component of cancer prevention; however, its uptake is low. We developed and conducted a pilot study of the ConnectMyVariant intervention, in which participants received support to contact at-risk relatives that extended beyond first-degree relatives and encourage relatives to obtain genetic testing and connect with others having the same variant through email and social media. The support that participants received included listening to participants' needs, assisting with documentary genealogy to find common ancestors, facilitating direct-to-consumer DNA testing and interpretation, and assisting with database searches.

In Tasmania, rural PEP is challenged as healthcare facilities are often small and have limited capacity for staff to devote considerable time to supervising students during PEP. Recruitment and retention of the rural health workforce in Tasmania is sometimes difficult because the island State is geographically distant from mainland Australia, and predominantly classified as a regional, rural, or remote area.

Methods: Five thousand twenty-six consecutive prenatal specimens (>98% high-risk pregnancy) were studied by high-resolution CMA, with cutoffs of 50 kb for losses and 200 kb for gains in nontargeted regions and 20 kb for losses and 100 kb for gains in targeted regions. We assessed actual detection rates using the current assay as well as hypothetical detection rates using platforms with the same or lower resolution and smaller or larger cutoffs.
